George McCalman

I was born May 21, 1952 in Homer, Louisiana, in North Central Louisiana. Served in the USAir force Reserve from 1971 through 1977, with an Honorable Discharge. Worked as an industrial electrician in the petrol chemical industry traveling throughout the US main land on many project’s for 37 years. I accepted Jesus Christ in 1967 at a TV Evangelist, James Robison Revival in North Louisiana. I now reside in Ruston, Louisiana, attending Crossroads non-denominational Christian church. I have a 27 year old son, James Ryan McCalman whom I raised as a single parent. One thing I want to point out is the very emotional feeling that comes on one when told by Dr‘s, “You may not live another few day’s” Told not once, but three times. Or better yet when a registered nurse tells you, “ You may be one heart beat away from death.” I have not been able to talk about that without crying tears of thanks to Jesus. He was there each time. I should not be surprised. He said he would be. I have lived with this since 1994, keeping most of it inside. I know exactly what he meant, when Jesus said, “ If You know these things and don’t tell them, the very stones in this city will cry out.” As much pain I have been through, I would not have it any other way. I will be glad to cry it out. Thank you Jesus.

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my son, James Ryan, whom I strongly believe in, and to all my nephews and niece’s, that I Love and trust will heed the message here in.

Last, but surely not least, my 95 year old mother, who taught me of Jesus Christ, mostly by living his word’s.

    PREFACE

This book has been a lifetime in the making. The ups and own clearly depict my closeness with Jesus while also delving into the struggles of an alcoholic. There is so much of my life I would like to go back and change yet, God has so patiently used experiences and others to lead me back from the dark side. Over and over He has shown me a better way and given me extra chances to live a Godly life, yet over and over the bottle won.

With failing health and family challenges, I am making a serious effort to help others learn from my experiences. The intent of these true short stories and poems is to encourage the Christians of this world to stand tall and fully embrace their Faith. It is well placed. As believers in Jesus Christ and as children of God we have a way out of the darkness through a minute by minute obedience to God’s word.

    Chapter 1

    Gone Fish’n

One Sunday night after dinner my son and I were watching the movie Ghost’s. I wondered if he, at seven years, was too young to watch the film. Yet, I did not turn it off.

On the screen the ghost (seemingly from hell) came up from the underground and dragged the bad guys who had just died away and down. My son looked at me and asked, Daddy, what will happen to me if I die before you do?

I nearly gasped and felt as if I swallowed my heart. I could see the fear of dying in his eyes and the love for me in his little face. I knew this was serious.

With that thought I said, Ryan, that is a very important question and I will answer you but I need a minute.

With that Ryan said, Yes sir, and turned back to the TV.

I went straight to God silently praying, God you see the fear and concern in this child’s face and in his heart. Please, in the name of Jesus, give me the words to comfort and reassure him. Less than sixty seconds from the time he said yes sir, I began my answer.

Do you remember last year when we were living with your Uncle Paul Bennett on Lake Claiborne?

    Yes sir, replied Ryan.

Remember, you were fishing from the bank all by yourself and on your own you caught a bass, while Uncle Paul Bennett and I watched?"

    Yea Daddy, I remember.

You love to fish, don’t you, Ryan?

Yes sir, he answered with enthusiasm.

    To answer your question, you
