    Introduction

For years now many have implied that the typical black male is on or selling

drugs, lazy, ignorant and incompetent trouble makers as if they are the only

ones. The truth is, each race and culture has their own share of individuals

whom carry those labels but none are more exploited by society and the media

than African Americans. Why is it that most black people especially men, are

continuously labeled and portrayed as menaces to society and their communi-

ties in the public eye while other races are constantly being overlooked? It’s

time that the media stop exploiting the bad side of the African American cul-

ture and started showing the good side as well. We as African Americans, have

the same abilities and talents that other races have been only said to possess to

be a positive force and influence in this world. We are sensitive human beings

too and not just rough, rugged and cold hearted, thuggish individuals whose

attitudes and personalities are constantly exaggerated by the media.

If given the proper and fair opportunity, African American men can be

wonderful lovers, friends and positive influences in someone’s life.

Unfortunately despite all of those wonderful qualities, the media only sees fit to

portray us in a negative manner. One can only wonder if the world will ever

embrace the beauty of equality. We as African Americans especially men both

young and old, have to make up our minds to get out of the bad situations that

we are in and have the courage to go after our goals and make our voices heard

in this world. You can get away from whatever is keeping you from doing what

you need to be doing in life whenever you get serious and make up your mind

to. No one controls your happiness or your emotions.

We as African Americans, have been putting up with slave mentality far to

long because we’ve allowed it. It’s time to make a change. Are you in a cir-

cumstance or situation that you just can’t seem to get out of once and for all?

If you can’t seem to find your way out it’s probably because you can’t decide

whether to truly move on and see what destiny has better for you or stay in

your bad situation and just complain because it’s what you are used to. For

example, there are people in abusive and controlling relationships right now

that are staying in the relationship in misery because they are afraid of the

challenge of starting over. Your freedom is in your mind and the way that

    you think.

Whenever you have finally decided that you’ve had more than enough

sleepless nights, laying in bed, tossing and
