ohit Ganesh was in the middle of his presentation when he felt his mobile phone vibrating in his pocket. Ignoring it, he continued with his presentation but the persistent vibrations made him curious. Whatever it was it could wait, or so he thought, because at that moment nothing else mattered more to him than his presentation. He was in line to be promoted as the Chief Strategy Officer of his company and a lot depended on the presentation.
Mohit was explaining a product feature when he noticed his colleague and friend, Ram Kumar Yadav, getting up from his seat and walking towards where their CEO was seated. Mohit watched them talking as he continued with his presentation but he was soon interrupted by Ram Kumar as he approached him.
Rohini has been trying to reach you. You should call her,
Ram Kumar said.
I’ll call her back once we are done with the meeting.
She texted saying it’s urgent. You know she wouldn’t text me otherwise. Talk to her.
Mohit reached for his mobile phone from his pocket and there were twenty three missed calls from his wife. He glanced at the seated executives of his company and said, Excuse me, I need to make a quick call. I will be right back.
Mohit exited the conference room and rang his wife.
Rohini, I told you how important this presentation is. What is it that can’t wait?
he asked in frustration as soon as she answered his call.
Rima is missing!
Rohini wailed, the words barely comprehensible.
What!?
Mohit panicked. He glanced at his watch and it was 9:39 PM. He wondered where their fifteen-year-old daughter could have gone.
I searched everywhere, called her friends, no one has a clue. Please come home Mohit, come home, please,
Rohini pleaded between sobs.
I am coming, calm down. We’ll find her, don’t worry. I am on my way.
Mohit disconnected the call and hurried back into the conference room. He updated Ram Kumar on what was going on and left immediately. On his way back home, he contemplated where Rima could have gone
