What do we want for ourselves? The powers that be on Madison Avenue and in Hollywood have gotten so good at manipulating us all, that the wants and needs that we genuinely believe were self-generated, for the most part, come from carefully-crafted campaigns. These campaigns command our attention, stoke our emotions, and stimulate the deep well of desire within each of us.
Setting priorities and goals ensure that we spend our time in accordance with what we’ve identified to be important.
Wants and Desires as Corporate Creations
In his classic book, Culture Jamming, author Kalle Lasn says, American culture is no longer created by the people. Our stories, once passed from one generation to the next by parents, neighbors, and teachers, are now told by distant corporations with ‘something to sell as well as to tell.
