WINNERS' HABITS - Ged Ward
Introduction
Once again, the neighbor!
H
e must have gotten up at 5 a.m. as usual for his daily workout. There's no other explanation for why his music penetrates the walls and reaches you in bed. You want to sleep, so you pull the blankets over your head. You encounter him outdoors while taking out the garbage after your day finally starts at 10 a.m., and he's brimming with joie de vivre. He tells you proudly that he's spending his Sunday working on a dream project and that he'll soon be able to leave his day job and earn a career from his hobbies instead. He even feels he is on the verge of financial independence.
Is he insane? Or is he just attracting success via his good habits, bringing you closer to a desire that feels nearly unattainable to you because your own self-destructive habits are getting the best of you? You feel trapped in a hamster wheel of a job you despise with dull leisure time because you are not receptive to new hobbies and interests.
Why do some individuals have a nice and harmonious family life and do great things together, while others rarely speak to one another and watch TV?
I, too, spent a long time on my own hamster wheel before I figured out what made me successful. My employment as a professor was well-paying, but there were limited chances for growth. My presentations were always the same. I didn't know what to do with my days off since I was depressed. I developed the habit of doing things that were detrimental to the circumstance. I slept late, and the day was half gone before I realized it. I always ate terrible cafeteria food during class breaks. When I didn't feel like that anymore, I began munching and eventually abandoned athletics. I won't be able to undertake any sport if I consume an unhealthy diet... When one bad incident followed another, I thought to myself. Reading several books, as well as having other experiences, eventually helped me establish more good habits. Sports returned to my life, as did good eating and waking up early. Because I learned how to make good habits, I got involved with an organization that works to protect the environment in addition to my job. Even if my employment with no future remained at first, my life changed for the better. Finally, my career became more positive as I concentrated on the positive sides of it and gained greater joy in my job.
It's no coincidence that we humans are creatures of habit
has been a German adage for decades. Humans, for the most part, do what they do out of habit. So what exactly is a habit?
A habit is defined as learned habits that are difficult to overcome.
Yet habits are more than simply behavioral patterns; they are also ways of thinking. Because the mental pattern always comes before the action. If a person is just aware of this, he may develop as many behaviors that encourage success as he desires.
To that aim, a substantial portion of this book is dedicated to the topic of how to reprogram your thinking and match it with your objectives. There are many practical activities given to help you develop a good attitude about life. Science and other interesting ideas show that a positive attitude is important and powerful.
After the lesson on how to retrain your thinking, the book will concentrate on retraining your behaviors via activities outlined in the following chapters. There is a lot of assistance and advice to help you discover your own unique route to success. After all, everyone has their own definition of success.
The exercises will teach you how to create helpful habits via reward setting, which you may repeat until your life begins to change.
When you combine these good habits with getting rid of bad ones, you will be closer to your goal of being successful.
Many people think that resisting a bad habit until it goes away is the best way to change it. However, this is hard to do because it's easy to give in when something small goes wrong in your life unless you've worked at it with the right strategies, like those in this book.
Here is a list of some of the questions you may be considering right now:
How can I cultivate a fundamentally optimistic attitude?
Which behaviors assist me in doing this?
How can I guarantee that my behavioral modifications last?
How can I figure out what success means to me?
What are my highest priorities?
What do I need to encourage myself before, during, and after the shift to a new me?
Is it necessary for me to be disciplined?
How do I know which acts will lead to my success?
What strategies can I use to break bad habits and form new ones?
Can specialized goods assist?
Which practices are very well-known and recommended?
Which microhabitats may be transferred to anyone?
This book will answer all of your questions and put you in an educated position to determine your route ahead to developing effective habits that will improve your life.
What does success mean to you?
S
uccess is defined differently by different people. Some individuals take the easy route and speak about accomplishments in terms of increasing assets, having fit bodies, and other outward things that may be judged by other people's judgments or societal norms. Others recognize that internal success is completely determined by their own standards.
People who want to improve themselves from the inside out pay attention to their own needs and choose tasks that interest them. Those who strive for outward achievement will be influenced by the ideals of others. Remember that you deal with many various individuals in your life, each with his or her own definition of success. So, you'll never be able to make everyone happy, and long-term success on the outside will be impossible.
When you put your own interests, goals, and ambitions first, you are more likely to succeed because you will be more motivated. Surely, there will be times in life when you must consider the interests of others, such as when making decisions at the board level of a firm or organizing a trip with your spouse. So, we'll get to it later in the book, but for now, the attention is all on you.
Create your own definition of inner success!
My wishes, my goals, my interests – my success!
You have to pay attention to how you feel to figure out which goals represent inner success for you. Emotions, like habits, originate inside us and are molded by our prior experiences. Emotions might be considered a kind of habit. For example, if you're accustomed to being a couch potato
every night, watching TV on the couch and drinking pizza and Coca-Cola, this will make you feel wonderful and secure for the time being. It might be a way to treat yourself after a long day at work. Yet sentiments aren't everything at that moment.
Listen to your ideas and emotions while you are not in such situations. People who are overweight often feel good even when they eat unhealthy foods because they are giving in to a craving and getting pleasure from it. Nevertheless, both the gratification and the sentiments are fleeting.
Negative sentiments are widespread among overweight persons in many different circumstances throughout the day because:
In public, mocking stares induce discomfort.
Anxiety and insecurity are caused by potential health difficulties.
More impediments to achieving one's own aims, such as being unable to wear desired clothing or engage in desired activities.
Seeing in the mirror makes me unhappy.
As time passes, there is a loss of movement.
In other locations, the situation is similar:
Partnership: When you spend time with your mate and watch TV together as a kind of relaxation in the evening. Yet, since it has become a habit, you find yourself spending every evening together in the same manner. You are pleased if you just consider the present moment. But when you really think about it, you realize that your usual nightly routine makes you unhappy because it doesn't meet your deeper needs. It's time for a change, but you
