This book is different and this is why it works. Not only is it based on proven fitness principles, but it’s presented in a fun story. Fitness is supposed to be fun. Health is a treasure to be shared by all. With this new knowledge, it will be.

First off, I would like to thank my clients. You’re the reason I am able to do what I love. It is because of you, my life is complete. A Little Help

    H i, help?

No response, no eye-contact from the Skinny Girl.

I guess I’m on my own for this one, she thought. Aubrey continued to browse the clothing shop.

This new spring collection is so cute, but these dresses look tiny. Why won’t these girls help me? What terrible service. You’d think a boutique shop in the richest mall of Orange County would have better customer service, sheesh.

Aubrey carefully brought a dress down herself. She peeked at the tag. She cringed and placed the dress back on the hanger. She searched for a bigger size, slowly at first, then fast and faster. Finally another worker rushed by.

Hi excuse me. Can someone please help me?

The Skinny Girl rolled her eyes. "Look, we don’t have anything that fits...you."

    Aubrey froze, mortified.

I’m sorry. The Skinny Girl stormed away.

Aubrey stood, too offended to respond, too hurt to move, and too proud to cry. What happened? I can’t believe this, I just can’t.

Her tan Mercedes felt the brunt of her pain as she slammed the car door. The eight year old graduation gift served as Aubrey’s temporary sanctuary. She sighed for a moment, yanked her brown hair, and finally the tears came streaming down.

Aubrey smashed her fists on the steering wheel and sped off. The tires screeched and released smoke reeking with the scent of rage.

Aubrey hurried home and scrambled inside her apartment. Her white cat Rocky welcomed her home. Aubrey swung a kick at Rocky, but he managed to escape. I hate that cat. Rocky was the poor victim of an ugly divorce. She didn’t like cats, but she hated him more. Aubrey opened her refrigerator and inhaled. Ahhh. She reached for her delectable caramel chocolate cake and found peace. Mmm delicious.

I Try, Try and Try Some More

What happened? I used to be proud of my body. Nothing fits anymore. Mirrors hate me. I hide from old friends. I can’t even remember the last time I felt...sexy. This wasn’t supposed to be my life. I hate this feeling. Argh!

Aubrey pedaled as hard as she ever had in spin class. The pain in her legs failed to match the pain in her heart.

Ok guys, great job! Another thousand calories burned. Excellent work, shouted the instructor.

Drenched in sweat, Aubrey left spin class. She stopped as she caught a glare from the mirror in the locker room. Her muffin top failed to hide in her gray cotton tee and black sweatpants. As Aubrey gathered her bag, she overheard a couple Skinny Girls talking about their personal trainer.

Can you believe I lost twenty-five pounds? said one Skinny Girl.

I know, and I lost thirty. And the craziest part, it wasn’t that hard, replied the other Skinny Girl.

Bam! Aubrey slammed her locker door.

Luckily he fit us into his schedule.

    I know. He’s so busy.

I wonder who these irritating Skinny Girls are talking about. It must be some pompous, arrogant trainer. Aubrey had dreadful experiences with personal trainers and their tacky sales tactics. Being overweight, she felt like a target. She had no idea how overweight, it had been years since she dared set foot on a scale.

Aubrey commenced the catwalk through the gym floor. Why is everyone staring at me?  I bet they wonder what I’m doing here. Probably taking bets on how long before I quit, haters.

As she left, she waved bye to the Front Desk Girl.

Bye Aubrey, hope I see you soon!

Bye? Aubrey replied. Was she implying I won’t return? How did she know my name? Why does she care if I come back?

Nevertheless, Aubrey felt accomplished. It was a New Year and she was on a mission. She managed to get through an intense spin class, her first workout in nine months. Her new fitness plan included seven days of exercise; an enhancement to this year’s resolution. She also started her aggressive juicing diet, 20 Pounds in 20 Days.

Although Aubrey had tried this diet several times before, this time she was sure it would work. This was her year, nothing like last year or the year before.

Aubrey sat in her old sedan, surrounded with fast food wrappers, and stared into space.

I’m tired, and I’m starving. I know I started my diet today, but I’ve been really good all day. And my boss’s skinny secretary pissed me off. I should go home and drink my juice...I should, but I did burn a ton of calories.  I’ll just pass by Tom’s and get a smaller combo. Yeah, that’s it, just tonight. Tomorrow I’ll be better. Plus, I deserve it. Today sucked.

Aubrey drove to her usual fast food drive-thru. She thought about ordering something healthy for an instant, but ordered a bucket of fried chicken instead. Although she had good intentions, she believed she earned her meal.

When Aubrey arrived at home, she tortured herself watching Romeo and Juliet, again. She continually shut the movie off when Romeo dies. After her movie, she pulled out her laptop and logged into her dating site. She scrolled and scrolled, and scrolled. Zero matches found; whatever, their loss. She snapped the laptop shut.

Aubrey opened her freezer door and eye-balled her vanilla ice cream sandwiches. She flipped the door shut. No, don’t do it. She waited a few seconds, took a couple deep breaths and slowly reopened the door. She peaked in before slamming the door once again.

Aubrey lay in bed eating her ice cream, accompanied by torn ice cream wrappers.

I still can’t believe that Skinny bitch at the mall. And what were those Skinny Girls talking about? Getting skinny isn’t easy, the nerve. I’m sure they were born with fast metabolisms or probably starve themselves.

Aubrey battled her weight since high school, and her recent divorce escalated the issue. For the past three years, while the divorce finalized, she tried every weight loss scam. Everything from Getting Shredded in 90 Days, funny butt-lifting shoes, weird salts, shocking belts, waist trimmers, ab contraptions, starvation cleanses, fat burners, and even a vibrating stick. Broken promises were the only result.

    It’s Better Than Nothing

Beep, beep! Aubrey’s alarm sounded. She hit the snooze button.

Beep, beep, beep! She hit the snooze button again.

Beep, beep, beep, beep! She knocked the alarm off the table. As she began to move, she felt strange. Her body hurt. She smirked. Well, no pain, no gain.

Damn it, I’m late. Aubrey scrambled to get ready. She pulled her hair back, threw on her work clothes, snatched her juice and drove off to work. She raced to work juggling lane changes with makeup application. She was a junior executive at a top marketing firm in Orange County. She landed her dream job after college and moved there from
