About this ebook

My book is an inspirational story of hope, courage and determination. As an immigrant, I had a career burnout, lost my memory and couldn’t function. I sank into deep depression and told my husband my brain was ‘cooked’ and my life was over.
I write about my life-changing encounter with destiny and examine our purpose. I share some of the challenges we face as immigrants and how to overcome them. I show you examples of victorious living. As you read my story, you will draw strength to help you overcome the challenges you face, provided you look to the right source. You can rise again; you don’t have to settle for second best!

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my soul partner and best friend Ren, who stood by me through thick and thin.

I have written this book especially for my three children and their future wives so that they may have a legacy to pass down to their children. I want them to see what life as pioneers involves.

Thank you to my mother who encouraged me to write my testimony into a book.

Thank you to my son Etienne, for designing the cover.

    Foreword

This book provides hope and courage to the reader. It shows how we can move towards living life to the full, despite the challenges and setbacks we face. It encourages you to live an abundant life. You don’t have to settle for second best when you have God directing your life.

My comforting verse through my deepest challenges is Psalm 23:4: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

This comfort is also found in Isaiah 43:2–3a: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God.

As we go through the various phases of our life, we face new horizons. Sometimes we have good experiences and sometimes we have not so good experiences. No matter the season in your life, you should know that you are never alone.

    About the Author

    Part One

Living in Australia, the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit

Australia is fondly known as ‘The Land Down Under’ in many parts of the world. I immigrated to Australia with my family in August 2002 and got a job in Moree, north-west of New South Wales. By that stage, a research paper had been written on the Aboriginal community there titled ‘What Works’. I have a research and curriculum major at Master’s Level in Education. I was duly appointed as learning support coordinator for Year 11 and 12 Aboriginal students.

In January 2003, I developed and conducted the ‘Retention Program’ for these students at Moree Secondary College. God graciously gave me the wisdom, understanding, patience, and perseverance to work with the students, their parents and elders, and the school community. In that first year of running my program, a record number of seventeen students sat for their external higher school certificate, and they all completed it. This was a first-time record for Aboriginal students in Moree. Praise God!

Moree is famous for its artesian hot springs.
