Dedicated with so much love and gratitude to:
My loving, tender, and compassionate dad,
Daddy William A. Forchap. RIP
Thank you so much for loving me, embracing me, and forgiving me even when I did not deserve it. I am indeed grateful and honoured to be your precious little girl and will always love you. I could never thank you enough for always believing in me, trusting, and encouraging me . . . even in moments when there were hardly any obvious reasons for you to do so!
Your tender flame of love, compassion, and kindness towards me is still
very alive in my heart today and burning vibrantly, never to cease or quench. You will forever live within the hearts of each and every one of us—
your children, until we meet you again.
You are the best and number 1 dad in the world;
you will always be my hero and role model!
I love you so dearly and tenderly.
My loving, compassionate, merciful, and omnipotent Heavenly Father,
The one true and only living God and my DADDY.
Your immeasurable and magnificent love, compassion, and mercies
for me are new every morning and endure for eternity.
Thank you, DADDY, for loving, caring, accepting,
and embracing me just as I am.
I am so blessed and privileged to be your chosen and beloved daughter, to experience a love so profound and undeserving that enriches my life
and that of my family and loved ones every single day.
I am indebted to you by loving my children, spouse,
and everyone just as you have loved me!
PREFACE
Background and Motivation
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go
(Joshua 1: 9).
Y ou might be wondering what motivated me to write about a father’s tender and compassionate love and not a mother’s. Considering that I am a very compassionate and loving mum, one would expect my first book to be about a mother’s tender and compassionate love and not a father’s.
It’s been a very long and thoughtful week, battling with the decision whether to finally put an end to my long sought-after and ambitious career in the medical field and pursue God’s purpose for my life (what I term taking a step of faith) or go on with this ambitious career and gradually develop and work towards my calling and purpose in life.
The natural decision would be to go on with my career, for obvious reasons such as its financial security, prestige, and power, while working and gradually developing my calling. However, the danger with the latter is that it might lead to extreme anxiety, time constraints, and pressure, without actually being able to do my best in any of them. The reason for saying this is because I am very passionate about both, however, I feel more fulfilled and happy doing the latter. I strongly believe that the former (my career) was meant for a purpose—to prepare and lead me to my calling and purpose in life—which is now fulfilled.
I then decided I would have to pray and diligently seek the Lord’s face for guidance and direction. However, before this time (the deciding moment), I had always been so confident that I would easily put an end to my career/prestigious profession and dedicate my time and life to a more common and basic yet fulfilling role—by being of service to underprivileged young girls/women and families through Voice of Nations (VON), a non-profit organisation which I founded with God’s guidance and direction in August 2010. I had this great vision about VON and saw it expanding and employing women and men of all nations.
I had a very strong conviction that this was the right choice, and I was very certain and confident that even if I had to stay for up to a year without any income or salary (which I was, however, very convinced would not be the case), I would never lack financially or change my lifestyle. Amazingly, I was very confident I would be able to live a very happy and purpose-driven life, through the grace of God, who has been very kind, generous, and faithful in providing abundantly for me and my lovely family at all times. In addition, I have been so blessed by the Almighty God with the wisdom and knowledge to save not only for the rainy days, but also for the sunny and joyful ones.
Surprisingly, this week, for the very first time, I began having doubts about quitting my career, especially at a moment when I was in the process of getting an ambitious and long-awaited manuscript of mine on some cutting-edge research I had done in the field of chronic myeloid leukaemia published. In the course of the week, as these doubts kept cropping up within me, I spoke to someone for the very first time (Karine, my beloved au pair and new family in Christ). Furthermore, I requested her opinion about the matter, and we agreed she would pray about it, while I also prayed. I did not speak to my husband about it, because I already knew what his opinion was.
To my amazement, before the encounter with Karine, she had been praying for herself and seeking the Lord to clearly reveal to her the purpose and meaning of her life/existence. Unexpectedly, she decided to share with me some of the Scriptures given to her earlier that afternoon by the Holy Spirit. We both got our Bibles out and sat down to share these Scriptures given to her by the Spirit of God on that blessed Sunday afternoon. As we began sharing the Scriptures, it became very obvious that to me this was not a coincidence, but rather a perfectly planned and ordained moment. It was clearly evident that all of the words and Scriptures given to Karine were also destined for me! It’s amazing how God works!
In the subsequent paragraphs, I will like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the very reassuring and comforting words God gave to me through Karine and, which in part, contributed to the birth of this book. In the first two Scriptures, the Lord was commanding and reassuring me: ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.’ He commands again, ‘Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give them…’ (Deut. 31: 6-7).¹ He reaffirms his words of assurance and guidance to me again: ‘The LORD himself goes before you and will
