    Preface

Here it is my life story up until 2004, this book was written with the intensions to leave something behind for my family, like my wife Abigail, my stepdaughter Gianna and my grandchildren so they can read and see what a character their grandpa was. If they think that I was an asshole, well at least I was a honest asshole. Everything in this book is 98% true the way I remember. Why only 98% and not 100%?

Well because it was all a long time ago and I might have messed up a name (not likely) or a place (more likely) or a time frame (also likely), but that does not change the fact that it happened. Some things that happened stay in the past and one competition I will leave out for personal reasons. I also do not write anything bad about my friends because if they did something bad that is for them to tell and certainly not for me. I wrote about a certain celebrity who is still today on TV, when we were together back then, she was something else. You will also read a lot about other crazy women because they were a big part of my life and who had more crazy women than me anyway? I could have written a whole book only about them and with that said, I left a lot of those women out. There is no way that I will publicly say any last names of those women, everything has a limit and I draw that line right there. Now, get ready and buckle up, it will be a roller-coaster ride for sure but never the less. If you like bodybuilding, chaos, crazy women and even more crazy sex stories, drama, danger, fun and a good life story... then this book is for you. I really hope you will enjoy it. This is my story. Ben Huellen, the good, the bad and certainly the ugly.

    Chapter 6

    My First World Championships.

Two months ago, I had no idea that I would be competing in the World Championship. I was just preparing for a Regional Show (Ruhrpokal) to see where I stood. I had not competed in over one and a half years and was not sure if I was any good and how I would do compared to the others. Apparently, I was in great shape and won the whole show. People would scream that I look like an Ami (American Bodybuilder) while I was performing my posing routine. When I finished and was getting ready to leave, the judges came to me backstage and told me to stay, because there was the qualification for the Mr. World contest right after and that they would let me compete, if I wanted too. Clearly it was an easy decision for me, since I was still pumped up and ready to go so I figured why not! Once I came off the stage and I was announced the winner again, I was proud but also a bit shocked and not sure where to go from here. Well it looked like I had to diet a little bit longer and prepare for the Mr. World contest.

That same evening, Bernd, an old friend of mine who also was watching the show, ask me to come with him to hold a seminar and guest posing the next day in his new Gym. So, my Girlfriend and I jumped into his van and drove with him about 300 miles up north. He stopped at the first Gas station and bought champagne to celebrate my victory. I had made a promise to my mother when I was 16 that I would not have another drink in my life, so it had been a few years since I had any alcohol. I thought that this would certainly qualify as an exception, and we filled the trophies all the way up with champagne to celebrate. As soon as I had a couple sips I was completely drunk and I could not even remember when we arrived that night or anything else. The next day, it was time for the seminar and there was a lot of people at the gym waiting for my arrival. Right after the seminar was over, I was supposed to pose. As I was trying to pump up, I did not feel anything, no pump, no veins popping out, nothing. That’s when I remembered that the alcohol the day before popped all my veins out, and told my friend to give me a shot of Tequila. I waited 5 minutes…but nothing... I felt absolutely nothing, I asked him for another one… but still nothing. Then another one, and another one until I had about seven. Finally, I started to feel something and now I felt just great, I got all warm and fuzzy on the inside and had a great pump, and all veins were finally popping out. So, I went on this podium they made extra for me and started to pose. As soon as I hit a couple poses, I felt like I was hit with a sledgehammer or something and the whole podium started to shake, then swing up and down and left and right and everything went blurry. It felt like I was on a ship in the middle of a hurricane. This is when I started to do the weirdest poses and people started to laugh now, I started to have a really great time which made me start laughing too. So, I struck a weird pose, they laughed, then I laughed and so on. I have no idea how I actually finished the whole posing, but I did it somehow, walked off the stage very wobbly and as soon as I was in the backroom my friend Bernd came up to me and told me to get up there again. Don't you hear them scream, go back out please!! I said no, and I really do not care right now, maybe later one more time but of course had no intensions to do so. He looked at me as if I was crazy but I was only drunk, completely drunk and I could hardly stand up straight. He had made reservations at a fancy restaurant that day with about 20 people right after my posing performance, all the people on our table wanted to talk to me and celebrate. We were all sitting on this big table and I tried not to speak because I felt so drunk. My head was spinning so fast that I started to panic now. I tried to get up to walk to the bathroom to splash some water on my face, but I could not even get up. People were asking me all this questions and since I could not even think straight, my only response was Mhm, yeah yeah, ok, ok, uhuh and so on. When the food arrived the only thing, I was able to see was stars. I looked at my food and passed right out, flat with my face in the whole plate. The next thing I remember was waking up in the hotel room the next morning, listening to my girlfriend telling me how 6 people carried me out of the restaurant, into the van and to the hotel. We fled the town by train as soon as possible.

About 6 weeks before the World Championships there was this new thing coming up, it was called Disco Posing Championships and it was held all over Germany in different clubs. At first I was not interested, but they mentioned that the winner would be able to choose between going to Acapulco, or taking $ 2500 cash. There were 15 pre-qualifying shows were the top 2 advance to the finals. Even at the qualifying show the winners would get $250. So I figured since I am already in shape why not make some extra cash.

At the first show, literally as soon as we came out people would make loud comments and believe me, they were not good. Freaks, monsters, absolutely disgusting… just to name the nicer ones. I heard one Girl screaming that she was so disgusted that she was about to vomit. Other girls came later back stage to see the freaks up close. They were screaming eeeeewwwww at first, which changed to can I touch you to I think I would like to fuck you in a matter of 30 minutes. Anyway, the finals came around about 2 weeks before the World Championships and my shape was great. I won the whole Disco competition and took the $ 2500, even though I was really embarrassed about the whole club thing. I just did not belong there and it did not feel right. However, what did feel right was the head treatment Winston got from the girl who screamed the loudest about how disgusting I was the first time around, right after the final in the back-stage area.…32 years later I actually made it to Acapulco!

    World Championships!

I was 23 years old, and the youngest member of the German National Team. When we arrived in the hotel in Belgrade, Yugoslavia on Thursday evening, we were told that the prejudging would change from Friday to Saturday. Usually, I would not drink anything the day before the show and I did not have that much experience back then to know what my next step would be now. I had not had anything to drink since Wednesday night, and I was afraid to ruin my shape, so I decided to continue not drinking for another day. How bad could that be, anyway right?

Friday night, the night before the prejudging, I was laying in my room and I started to feel a sharp pain in my kidneys. At first it was tolerable, but later that night the pain became stronger and stronger. Somehow, I made it through the night with a couple of sips of water here and there but it was certainly a pain in the butt or in this case my kidneys. The next day was prejudging time. We arrived at the auditorium with our own team bus with big German letters of Germany on the side. As we arrived, there were thousands of people (yes thousands!) waiting for us. As soon as the bus stopped, the crowd came running towards us. They made a path for us, with a swarm of people standing left and right. When our bus door opened, they screamed like they were at a Beatles concert or something. Everybody wanted to touch us and we were signing autographs for everyone. Inside the auditorium, it continued with pictures, touching, pictures and signing and signing and more signing. I think we needed about 2 hours to make it backstage. The whole show started about 4 hours later due to all the craziness around this show.

When we finally made it to the changing rooms back stage, the first thing I saw was Tim Belknap, shooting insulin in his stomach (He was diabetic). Then there was Mike Quinn, with big chains all over his body (He was quite a character). In another corner, there was Jeff King, showing of his amazing ripped triceps. Brian Buchanan looked like a comic figure with his waist was so small, most women wished to have. There was so much going on back stage, so many eccentric and great Bodybuilders all in one small place and everybody was laughing and having a good time.

The camaraderie was amazing, everyone supported one another like a big family. I almost forgot that I was pretty much dying of dehydration at this point, because I was having so much fun. As we walked on stage, people went absolutely nuts. It was so loud you could hardly hear the microphone of the head judge. It was sometimes really confusing on that big stage, but in the end, we figured it all out. In the middle of my posing routine my music collapsed and it all went silent. The audience immediately start to clap in a rhythm, so I just continued posing and it got extremely loud. The energy in the room was so intense that when I was finished, I was literally waiting for them to carry me off stage.

When the prejudging was over, we had to go through the same procedure again with pictures, autographs, kissing and what not. I think it took another 3 hours to get finally to the bus. The main show was the next day in the evening, so we (the whole National team) decided to go into the City for some fun (mainly food). All the placings are decided after the prejudging, so food could do no harm now. We were sitting down for about 2 minutes outside a café, when all the Yugoslavian people that were passing by stopped and stared at us. Then they came closer and wanted to touch our muscles, so be it. So, I decided to give those people a little more and climbed on top of the table, dropped my pants and sweater and started to pose. Within minutes a crowd of about 1000 people were screaming and chanting and clapping. Now the whole team joined in and the place went nuts. Some other teams saw us, came over and we started to have a pose down in the streets of Belgrade.

When we were finally finished and completely exhausted, we drove back to the hotel. On the way, we saw other teams posing, in the supermarket, library, on top of cars and even on the roof of a police bus. It felt like in the movie Stay Hungry. When we arrived that evening at the auditorium there were probably 8000 people waiting in front to get one of the 4000 seats. Same procedure for us like the day before, 2 hours to get back stage again and several uncounted hours to get back. I placed 4th in a very competitive class and Jeff King won it. The very next day, the whole team was nauseous because everybody stayed up and ate all night. Eddie (Roessler) alone a 5’5 man, gained 20 pounds over night and his face was swollen and his head looked like a soccer ball. On the flight back to Germany we had a lot of turbulences and the plane went up and down. The whole Team threw up like crazy, it was a whole new competition now, which I did not win either. Great fun, great experience and never again 2 days without water "!

When I came back home in my gym, the atmosphere had changed towards me. At the Ruhrpokal, there were like 80 people from my gym screaming their lungs out and congratulated me, but this time it seemed only a handful of those were left. What did I do? What was or went wrong? I could not figure it out until I heard some comments through others and it all made sense. Jealousy had arrived. Here I was, a 23-year-old bodybuilder, who suddenly is a top World champion finalist that came from nothing. So, people started to talk about me, mostly in a negative way. Every body part I had that was good before did not matter anymore. I only heard about how weak this muscle or that muscle was. The gym owners Rollie and Klaus also started to act weird, but I liked working out there so I put my head down and concentrated on my next goal. Winning the Men Nationals in May. I came in second in my first try at 22 and I wanted to make sure I would win it this time.

My leg workouts got even more intense than they ever had before. I just wanted those crazy legs like Tom Platz had or at least something similar to it. I would try and do whatever it takes. Every 6-8 weeks I would do 50 sets of squats, which usually would take me 2 1/2 to 3 hours and it was hard, especially mentally after about 20 sets, knowing that you have so many sets still ahead of you. When I sat down right after for about 20 minutes, I could not get up anymore, my legs were completely shut. I had to use my hands to pull on something or another person to help me get up again. The soreness afterwards was unbelievable, just sitting down on the toilet was already torture and it lasted for about 1 week, but by the end of the week, my legs had grown at least a half inch, every time. I always did it with a training partner but every time I had a different one, many would try it once but never a second time.

Life was not easy, at least the whole financial situation was tough. I did not want to go back to my old job, working at night was not good for my body in order to gain the most muscles. So, I hustled wherever I could, and my valuables, including the TV were more often in the pawn shop than anything else. We had also this shitty car with a shifter where the starter was broken, and I had to find a spot uphill every time when I parked, so the car would roll, which was not very easy in the middle of the city of Cologne. Many times, it did not work either and I often had to push it to get it to start. What a pain in the butt that was, but money was very tight. I remember one time I dented another car at the parking lot because I did not pay attention and my insurance was not paid. I waited for the owner to come back to his car but he did not show, so I put the information of Bernie (Chapter 4), who I knew had insurance on his windshield because people were watching me and drove away. Later that week, Bernie was arrested for a few hours because of that (Sorry Bernie). Right after that, the police showed up at my door, (it’s okay. I understand Bernie,) and I got lucky because I just switched cars and my new/old car had a different color.

    Nationals!

The upcoming month to the Nationals I felt very good. I heard a lot of rumors from all these new kids who were supposed to be so much better than me. Multiple people would tell me about 2 guys I really could not beat. I never commented on all these rumors, I just took it all in. They thought that somehow, they could discourage me, when in reality they did the opposite. I loved it! I really loved it when I heard that I could not beat this guy or that guy. It made me train so much harder and pushed me so much further. Every time, when I was giving it all in a single set and went to complete exhaustion, I imagined my competition being on the same spot in the same set, feeling the same pain and stopped, but not me. I went through the pain, saying to myself that this is the point where everybody stops because they cannot take the pain anymore, they cannot go where I can go, and if I want to win, I needed to push and push as hard as I can and forget about all that pain. More often than once I went through the pain barrier, which is a point where you go from the most excruciating pain to absolutely no pain at all. You just have this warm feeling in your muscle and you can go on and on now. Only when you stop, the pain comes right back. What an amazing experience that was, and even better to know that most people in this World will never ever know what that feels or means. It gave me some kind of super power, it made me feel very special. Since I was in the last National Team, I did not have to qualify for the Nationals. I could just go and watch my competition about 2 weeks out at the National Qualifier. I saw the 2 guys that I supposedly could never beat and oh boy, I was so not impressed. One of the guys ended up coming in 3rd and did not even go on to the Nationals, the other guy won but again, I did not see any real threat here. The morning of the Nationals I felt good. I know I did all my homework and I was ready. I went with a couple friends, and Frank (Chapter 5), was helping me back stage. Prejudging went as planned and at the finals right before my class was called out for the trophies, this very pretty girl approached me and told me that she totally wanted me right now. She told me that we should go to the bathroom and just do it. I told her to relax and wait since I was completely oiled up, pumped up and ready to go onstage. When I came off stage, announced as the Winner, she was gone. About 30 minutes later I was preparing for the Overall when suddenly, she popped up again, with the same approach, Come on I want you now right here, right now, let's go Again I told her to wait since I had to go out again. She said Now or never, I told her that it probably looked like never at this point. As soon as I came off stage again, she was gone for good. I thought that maybe some of my competition paid her to do so because something felt very strange and off about it. Anyway, I won and that was all that mattered to me. The very next Monday when I came to my gym, the owners Klaus and Rollie, decided to throw me out. Why? I have no clue, there was so much gossip going on and the vibe got pretty bad that at this point, I actually was happy about it. There was this other gym, called the Body Shop and the owner called Mok wanted me to train there. He offered to support me with all my supplements and the equipment in the gym was also really good. So, it was an easy decision for me and for him it was good advertisement for the gym, since I just won the Nationals. So, it was a win win situation for both of us.

    National Champion with 24

    European Championship

The next Monday I went to the Body Shop and saw Eduardo Kawak, a multiple Mr. Universe champion, working out there. He heard about me and my insane leg workouts, so he asked me if I wanted to train with him and of course I said yes. We started to work out together and I could see right away that he was not the most driven guy in the gym, actually he was kind of lazy but had those crazy genetics. He would only look at the weights and started to grow already. More often than once, we would start to train a muscle group and right in the middle of it, one of his girlfriends (he had a lot) would show up and Eduardo would stop and tell me that he will finish the rest of the muscle in the evening, and walked right out of the gym with her. Something I would have never done, but that was Eduardo. He just loved life, laughter, sex and good food and even though I did not agree on most of our trainings sessions, we became really good friends. He was just an amazing person with a somewhat different state of mind when it came to working out. That Monday I also decided to compete at the European Championship, which was held in Rome, Italy that year. It was only 4 weeks away, and I was already in shape so I figure why not. After a couple days, Eduardo came in the gym and told me that he is going to compete at the European Championship as a pro as well. I thought to myself, what the hell was he thinking? I know he had not worked out the last 3 weeks and was just back into the workout for 2 days. He was certainly not cut by any means and 100% clean of any supplement. I did not see how he could get in shape in 3 1/2 weeks but he insisted. Ok Eduardo, if you say so! I pushed myself really hard because I wanted to look better than I did at the Nationals. Eduardo was still Eduardo and disappeared half the time with his girls during work outs, he told me that it is really good for definition to have a lot of sex so sure, if you say so I said. It was the last week before the competition now and he was still white like a wall. So, I told him to use the tanning bed. It was in our gym and it was free for those who competed, but Eduardo would not, he would just laugh it off like I just made a big joke or something. He was just like a big child, a very very very big one though. The day before the competition we flew to Rome and Eduardo was still white like the whitest washing powder you have ever seen. I told him that he needed tanning stuff bad, Yes, yes as soon as we are in the hotel he said. As we arrived he had no intention to get some tanning lotion on his body. I was standing right in front of him holding the bottle and he told me to come back later at 8pm. When 8 came around I went to his room, and he just came out all dressed up with Mary Scott (a 3 time
