The Secrete Behind Students of Distinction
*******
1. Introduction
Pupils who get distinctions have always been admired by society. They have been looked at as gifted. Yet there is a certain kind of behavior that fosters the getting of distinctions.
Students who get distinctions take a certain route in their school life. They have a kind of behavior which makes them stand out among others when examination results come out.
There is a unique pattern of life that pupils who graduate with flying colours have. Things do not happen by accident. Good grades are not obvious. They are a result of conscious effort. Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety nine percent perspiration- Thomas Alva Edison (11th February 1847 – 18th October 1931).
Such pupils understand what their duty in school is. The journey ahead is clear to them before they even start off.
Such students are like pilots who understand the condition of the plane and the weather before flying.
Similarly, pupils who perform well understand themselves, the academic challenges ahead and why they should dare those hurdles.
They do not only follow what everybody else is doing but have an individual approach to their education. They know that they went to that particular school as individuals and will leave alone.
This book is about inspiring students to live up to their potential of getting distinctions and making it in life. Of course pupils fail not because they are dull. They get bad results because of ignorance about their full academic potential. Their full potential is not cultivated. If a pupil fears distinctions, distinctions will fear him. Certainly, this book openly tells pupils what their parents have not said to them.
It aims at changing some pupils’ mind set from believing in failure to understanding the route to getting great school results. It shows them what to itch for and embrace in order to get distinctions.
2. Self-Discipline
The Collins Advanced Dictionary defines self-discipline as the ability to control yourself and make yourself work hard or behave in a particular way without needing anyone else to tell you what to do.
As someone who is determined to get distinctions in all the subjects, you need to avoid things that lead to failure.
You need to draw a line between what will uplift you and things that can drag you down. You need to run away from all circumstances that may distract you from the goal of attaining your desired distinctions.
First, you need to control yourself against drinking beer. It will start from taking ‘a little’ alcohol at a party before you graduate into a drunk. You can be a drunk right at school! That is one of the worst enemies of your own progress.
Do not fall into the trap of some churches which say drinking a little is not bad. You know that is utter nonsense because drinking is drinking regardless of amount. It is destructive to you.
The damage caused by alcohol on brain is stressed in a UK newspaper, Mail Online, which shows chilling pictures on the harmful effects of alcohol, cigarettes and coffee.
The newspaper quotes a book titled ‘Change Your Brain, Change Your Life’ a US best seller written by a neural scientist, psychologist and professor of psychiatry and human behavior, University of California, Daniel Amen.
According to the article, caffeine and tobacco narrow and close up blood vessels in the brain causing cells to die off. The damaged brain could mean a range of problems like poor judgment, weak control of impulses, and increased risk of depression. Loss of memory also follows.
Beer also has some destructive effects on the brain. According to the article, too much of it also closes up blood vessels to the brain causing cells to die off. Damage to brain cells could lead to poor judgment, weak control of impulses and a risk of depression. Memory loss and unpredictability are also results of drinking.
Cannabis or marijuana is also equally damaging to brain cells. It squeezes down blood flow thereby resulting in cell damage and death. The result could be poor memory and lack of motivation.
According to a US organization, The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) , drinking beer in the long term leads to serious changes and persistent changes in the brain. The institute says on its site pub.niaaa.nih.gov that the damage may be a direct effect of alcohol on the brain or indirectly from a poor general health status or severe liver disease.
The site also says alcohol could result in thiamine or vitamin B1 deficiency, a serious problem because the vitamin is an essential element required by all tissues including the brain. It says the serious alcohol related vitamin B1 deficiency could lead to mental confusion, paralysis of the nerves that
