About this ebook

For anyone who has had children, ever, then you know the challenges of raising them, the doubts you experience and the frustrating moments when they either don’t listen to you, or simply want your undivided attention when you have something more pressing to do.

It’s a natural part of a period in your life, when you will most likely question your sanity and think that you are a failure. But the reality is usually far removed from that.

In Failing as a Parent: And Other Thoughts from a (Slightly) Overwhelmed Mom of Two Small Boys, you will find a collection of thoughts on raising children, many of them hurriedly scribbled down in a passing moment of calm, which you will probably be able to relate to.

Things like keeping your house clean, sibling rivalry, judging other parents and dealing with insecurities are all dealt with using a mixture of humor and experience, with a bit of exasperation thrown in.

Failing as a Parent isn’t designed to be a self-help book, it doesn’t provide you with the answers, or try to tell where you’ve gone wrong, but it should brighten your day, make you smile and hopefully help you realize that none of us are perfect.

Shelley Wenger

Shelley Wenger was born in York, Pennsylvania and has never left. She now lives on a small farm in southern York County, with her husband and their two sons, surrounded by the usual menagerie of farm animals and a kitten called Jumper. After she graduated from Susquehannock High School, she went on to Manor College to become a certified Veterinary Technician. She works part-time at a small animal hospital, though she also runs her own freelance business. She enjoys working from home while looking after her children. A writing career was always something that Shelley aspired to, and it was the trials and tribulations of the struggle to raise two boys which gave her the idea for several of her books in the ‘Good Mom’ series. In them she retells stories and yarns about the fun and laughs, the difficulties and the sheer frustration of it all. She also has written several books to help people make money from home. When she has time to relax Shelley likes reading and keeps a scrap book to try to save her memories, as well as her sanity. She also loves to spend time with her family and, not surprisingly with two active boys, they attend a lot of tractor and truck shows together. In the future, Shelley wants to keep writing and, as she spends a lot of time outdoors, she bought a laptop so that she can work outside. And with her children soon to be starting school it should provide her with an opportunity to do just that. Failing As a Parent - Shelley Wenger

Hello. Let me introduce myself. My name is Shelley and I am one busy (and often overwhelmed) mom. I know that I am not the busiest of moms—everyone is super busy, trying to be the very best mother that they can be.

Mothers wear many hats. Many work outside the home (or inside it, with their children by their side). Many are in charge of their whole house, keep up with the cooking, cleaning, and laundry. We are also in charge of our pets! That doesn’t leave much time for ME time, though we all deserve a break.

As I said before, I am the mom of two CRAZY boys. They are very active and into everything, though life is getting a little easier as they are getting older!

If you don’t know me from my previous book, I am working hard to keep my boys in line and my house going. I also work outside the home part-time in a busy veterinary office which is what I went to college for.

I also love to write (especially blogging) so I started a business which allows me to provide for my family and work at home with my boys by my side. Virtually Shelley isn’t the most successful business but each dollar that I bring in helps my family!

So, you can see that I have a lot on my plate, just like every other mother out there that I know. I hope you enjoy my collection of short happenings in my life. If you do, please don’t forget to leave a review. I really appreciate it!

    Happy reading. Enjoy!

    Failing as a Parent

I got the call today, which made me feel like a total failure as a parent, though I know that I am not.

The school wants to meet with me about next year. Not only do I have to meet with our principal, but I also have to meet with the principal from another school where they send children who need to have full-day Kindergarten.

At first, I wanted to cry. My son is so intelligent in other ways – ask him about animals and bugs or ask him about hunting. He knows so much, as long as it matters to him. The alphabet is a whole other story.

It makes me feel like a failure. I can’t teach my child his alphabet. I can’t teach him much of anything – I have no patience and he gets so irritated with me.

    In my head, I know
