Night Of The Eel - Heather Beck
Alex, I’m leaving for the travel agent’s office now!
Mr. Pierce called to his daughter. Are you coming?
I better come,
seventeen-year-old Alex replied as she came running down the stairs. "Otherwise, I’ll end up in the shark infested waters of Australia again. I don’t care what the brochures and tour guides say, those sharks are not tame."
You enjoyed yourself, admit it,
Mr. Pierce said with a laugh.
"I may have enjoyed lounging on the beach, but I didn’t enjoy the Swim with the Sharks expedition," Alex corrected her father.
As Alex looked at her father, she could hardly believe that they were related. While she wore conservative clothing, her father loved to wear ripped jeans and old school rock band t-shirts. Mr. Pierce had curly blonde hair and always wore one small silver hoop earring.
As for his career, Mr. Pierce played in a band with two other men. They called themselves The Young at Heart. His band’s name perfectly described Mr. Pierce. He was a grown man who acted like a twenty-year-old. Mr. Pierce would rather be strumming on his guitar than working in an office.
It was Mr. Pierce’s eccentric and youthful behavior that led to his divorce over ten years ago. The former Mrs. Pierce would have probably received custody of Alex if she hadn’t run off to Greece shortly after the divorce was finalized. Instead, Mr. Pierce was given full custody of Alex.
Alex had always thought her father’s band was silly. However, her opinion changed when the band signed a contract with a major music label and went on a worldwide tour. Within two years, Alex’s life had gone from normal to extraordinary. She
