Heather Beck is a Canadian Author and Screenwriter who began writing professionally at the age of sixteen. Since then she has written eleven well-reviewed books, including the best-selling series, The Horror Diaries, which has sold in six continents. Heather received an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree from university where she specialized in English and studied an array of disciplines. Currently, she is working on the Frostbitten series and has two anthologies slated for publication. As a screenwriter, Heather has multiple television shows and movies in development. Her short films include: Young Eyes, The Rarity, Too Sensible For Love, Circular, and the forthcoming Witch’s Brew. Besides writing, Heather’s greatest passion is the outdoors. She is an award-winning fisherwoman and a regular hiker. Her hobbies include swimming, playing badminton and volunteering with non-profit organizations.

Clayton Baxter didn’t make a sound as he pressed his ear against the door and listened. He heard nothing but silence. Ever so carefully, Clayton placed a key into the lock and then gently pushed the door open.
Clayton’s tense body relaxed when he saw that the room was dark and empty. Smiling to himself for getting away with such a devious plan, Clayton quietly jogged to his bedroom. He opened his bedroom door and then muffled a scream as someone clasped their hands over his mouth.
How could you?
she asked as she released her grasp on Clayton and turned on the light switch.
Clayton spun around to see his mother. He tried to hide the brown paper bag behind his back, but he wasn’t fast enough. Mrs. Baxter grabbed the bag and ripped it open.
Oh,
she moaned in disappointment, upon seeing the contents of the bag lying on the floor.
Ashamed, Clayton turned his head away from the mess. I’m so sorry,
he muttered.
Mrs. Baxter bent down and picked up the fallen candy wrappers.
Clayton couldn’t watch his mother throw the handful of wrappers into the garbage can; he was too disgusted with himself.
We need to have a serious talk,
Mrs. Baxter said, motioning for her son to sit down in a nearby chair. You promised me you would stop eating candy. However, it seems like you’ve been eating more than ever.
Clayton lowered his head in shame. Yes, I have,
he admitted. I bought the candy just an hour ago and have already eaten it all. I’m a monster!
Mrs. Baxter patted her sobbing son’s back. "You aren’t
