Foreword
This book is a non-traditional look at various ways of coping with the stress that afflicts so many people in their day-to-day lives. It offers ten techniques or steps to lowering the amount of stress in your life, and is written in an easy-to-read format that draws from the author's own triumphs over stress and worry.
It's not a rehash of the causes of stress, or boilerplate platitudes that you may have read elsewhere. It's an honest, practical piece of work that could significantly alter how you approach life.
Dedication
I owe a tremendous debt of thanks for my own current stress-free condition to my wonderful wife Linda, who now works a long day teaching school, takes care of me in my disabled state, pays the bills, mows the lawn, and keeps our household running smoothly day to day (among many other responsibilities). It is to her that this book is dedicated. She is my hero and already adept at utilizing several of the techniques outlined in these pages.
Introduction
I'm not a Ph.D.
I'm not a highly acclaimed expert on the subject of stress reduction.
This is not a scholarly tome on how to lower your blood pressure through self-actualization, although I truly believe that if you'll follow the simple steps outlined in this book, you'll begin to feel a significant difference in your day-to-day stress level.
What makes me think I have something useful to say on the subject?
I'm a former marketing executive who coped with crippling stress every day for the better part of forty years before finally learning—mainly through experience and my own research—the techniques and tips you'll find in these pages.
In my later years, I also became afflicted with a deteriorating spinal cord condition and had to learn quickly how to relieve the tremendous anxiety that accompanied the news that I'd probably never walk again without help or a wheelchair.
I learned how to survive—and thrive—despite overwhelming odds in my life. You can, too.
Here's what you'll learn in this book:
• The secret to living one day at a time
• Five proven relaxation techniques that really work
• How to let go of failed relationships
• Time management: organization is your friend
• Abandoning expectations that can cripple your daily happiness
