About this ebook

It is comforting to know that our Lord and Savior will never leave us nor forsake us. Unlike many people who claim to be our friends, Jesus will be “closer than a brother.” While many of our friends may come and go, we can rest assured that Jesus will always be with us.

My Constant Companion - E. Richard Bridgeforth, Sr.

    Fellowship

    Preface

    §

The main theme throughout this book is the fact that God will never leave you nor forsake you. As humans, we sometimes fall away from God, going back into sin. Some people are much like the prodigal son who had taken his inheritance and went away, spending all that he had on worldly pleasures. Then after finding himself in a bad situation, he decided to return to his father, hoping to at least be treated as one of the hired servants.

When he got home, however, his father ran to meet him with open arms! He hugged and kissed him and ordered a banquet to be held in honor of his son’s return. When we fall away from God and go back into sin, we are much like the prodigal son, in that, we often come to a place in our lives where we realize that we need to return to our Heavenly Father. God is waiting for us with His arms opened wide, longing for our return. He doesn’t chastise us for leaving. He is full of rejoicing because we have come back to where we belong!

Although this book is a testimony of how the author met God and received God’s calling to minister the gospel, it is also his testimony of how he fell back into sin for 32 years. However, during all those years, God never left him. God had always kept His hand on him and placed a desire in him to read and study the Bible. God continually wooed his heart, enticing him to return to his first love.

The author writes about his wilderness experience. During this time, Satan tried to destroy his life, but with God’s help and intervention, he was able to overcome the trials that were before him. Again we see that God will never leave us nor forsake us.

No matter what your trial may be you can be assured that God will always be with you. Although He may seem far away at times, Jesus said that He sticks closer than a brother. We can always trust the Lord to be waiting for us to call upon Him in our time of need.

    Introduction

    §

Many times we feel lonely. Often our loneliness stems from boredom or lack of enthusiasm. Yet, there are times when we are truly lonely. Perhaps we don’t seem to have many friends. If we do have friends, they are often busy with their families and perhaps are not concerned about us. But we do have a Friend who cares for us and is always with us; who will always accompany us if we will allow Him. That Friend is Jesus. We are told, A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Prov. 18: 24) Jesus will always be with us as our closest Friend if we allow Him.

    Deut. 31: 8

And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be
