Life Lessons For Athletes

About this ebook
Being an athlete is far more than having physical skills and being able to perform better than an opponent on a given day. Being an athlete and a great teammate involves choices of effort and attitude – in other words character. These are the lessons that should be taught by both coaches and parents and learned by athletes. If you really look at why we want young people to participate in sports, it is so that they will gain something from the experience that will make them a better adult.

Separating Talent and Character
Congratulations on having the talent necessary to play the sport you have chosen. You have probably worked hard to develop your talent, but here are a couple of truths about your talent
:
1 - The truth is… you had very little to do with the majority of your physical talents - they were gifts given to you at birth. Most people who are born with the genetic make up to be coordinated, strong, fast or to be a certain height. Few people regardless of how hard they work can ever attain the physical abilities to play at the professional level and only a small percentage of high school students have the ability to compete for their teams.
