Comparison is the thief of joy

Q My mind tends to wander when I compete and I look on other riders as better than I am. What should I be focusing on?

Your focus should be on the task in hand rather than on the outcome. This means that you should compare your current performance to your own previous performances. This increases the amount of control, confidence and motivation that you have. When we are in a competitive setting competing against other riders we can’t control the amount of skill they have or the effort they put in, only our own. If we start to compare ourselves to them our perceived ability becomes fragile. One moment you may ride?”
