About this ebook

Joe returned to the States to find his Mom had become more radical since his Dad had died.  He went to visit her and found that she was driving his sister Carla up a tree.  His Mom was an adamant gun owner and slept with a gun under her pillow since she was afraid that Mexican criminals would come over to Arizona from Mexico and murder her. This older woman was clearly out of touch with reality and shouldn’t have been allowed to own a gun. Joe and his sister Carla have to deal with a mom that they had a hard time liking due to her stubborn bigoted ways. Although this short story deals with a serious subject, it is full of humorous situations and scenes.
This humorous short story is suitable for all aged groups.

    The End

My older sister, Carla, had divorced her husband last month and had moved in with our mom.  I was glad that she was living with Mom now since from listening to Mom on the phone, she didn’t seem like she was coping well.  I guess that is what is bad about being married for a long time.  Sometimes the remaining partner has a hard time adjusting to being single again.

My Mom lived in Arizona in a small town up the road from Tucson.  I had returned to my job at Sierra Vista and after getting settled in, decided to pay Mom a visit.

I drove up to her house and parked in the driveway.  I sat there for a few minutes observing the house and yard. Dad had always taken pride in his yard, had mowed and fertilized his lawn faithfully.  Now it showed signs of neglect.

Mom opened the door and frowned at me.  It’s about time that you showed up, Joe.

I got out and reluctantly walked up the sidewalk to the house.  I love
