    Chapter 1

    Judy was frowning as she read the letter.  She shifted uncomfortably in her chair and said, The Real Estate Office says they are having a hard time keeping our house in Texas rented. Some of the renters have said they think it may be haunted.  Mr. Delgodo, the real estate agent, wonders if we would be interested in selling it. He thinks he may have a buyer.

    Beth and Judy had lived in the house with their aunt and uncle when they were growing up.  Their uncle and aunt had taken the twins into their home when they were 13 years old and they had stayed there until they were 18, when they had gone off to college.  Their uncle had died two years ago and their aunt had died this year; some say from a broken heart.  They had been very close and she had not been able to cope very well after his death.

    They had not had any children of their own so the house and the rest of the estate had gone to Beth and Judy.  Their aunt had been their Dad's oldest sister.  After the death of the girls' parents in a plane crash, their aunt and uncle had taken them in.  They had treated the twins like their own and Judy and Beth had loved both of them very much.

    Somehow they could not bear to part with the old house so after their uncle and aunt's death, they decided to rent the old house out rather than sell it.  During this last year, the Real Estate Office had rented it to three or four families but none stayed for more than a couple of
