- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I'm a bit of a hot sauce fiend, having grown up in south TX. But I'm very picky on cookbooks, because so many of them seem overly simple. So when I have a chance to snag one free, I generally do, and a review is a small price. What I liked: There's a good variety of cuisines here, with peppers that are mostly easy to find (At least here in Philly). The searchability and the index both are pretty good for the times you find a pepper at the market and want to know what it usually goes with. There's a lot of variety of cultures and what seems like a good overview of the variety within the cultures. At least for Mexican, I know enough about the cuisine to say these are pretty accurate. What I didn't: There are a few sauces that I would have liked to have more information on the intended textures and some that would benefit from the depth of flavor of a quick char.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a really great book for those of us who love hot sauce and spicy food! It includes recipes for many different kinds of "hot sauce" and also different dishes to try them in. I really enjoyed the background on the chiles as well!I think the best part of this book is the variety. It uses everything from the Louisiana hot sauces and Mexican salsas I grew up with to the trendy favourite sriracha, and even the less well known (but just as good!) piri piri sauce. While I would have liked for the book to have included more recipes, and possibly some pictures, for the most part the recipes included seem easy to follow along with, and it shouldn't be too hard to further experiment with the sauces on my own.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really like this book, it has recipes from the carribean, mexico, even Asia. I definitely like the Asian sauces the most, and the ingredients are not hard to find, so you can have some delicious hot sauce made in the comfort of your home. The only thing that would make this cookbook alot better is if there were more pictures of the finished sauces. Too much text, not enough pictures :) But overall, very nice book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome cookbook !!! I LOVE the history behind peppers and the descriptions, of the differences in peppers. Cannot wait to try some of these recipes!!! Waiting for my peppers to grow!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I got this book for free in return for an honest review so here it goes....I absolutely LOVE this book. I love to cook and will buy many cookbooks but I had never thought to look for a hot sauce cookbook which is weird since I do like spicy food. If you like chilies this book is a must. It gives the reader a brief but interesting history and background of different types of chilies and will divide recipes by regions. Being from Puerto Rico I never thought the Puerto Rico Pique would be included in any cookbook and was super excited to see it, specially since the recipe in the book is practically the same as the one I do at home. This makes me think the author did a very good research and the hot sauce recipes are the traditional once from the regions. I am excited to try the Rubbed Flank Steak with New Mexican Red Sauce but will have to wait till I can get the chilies since I really do not know where they sell them.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a charming book which gives a brief background to chili cultivation and traditional use in sauces. The book is primarily composed of recipes. The author was thoughtful enough to contain not only hot sauce recipes but dishes which would best complement the sauce in question. A quick read full of inspiration and exciting new ideas. I felt challenged to expand my expertise and try something truly out of my comfort zone.
