About this ebook

Captain Kumar placed his hand on her right shoulder. Captain Sahani came closer too. He said, “Madam, I am very sorry. Captain Subhash is no more. Last night Bodo militants killed...”

Chapter One: Ill-Fated Morning
She was lost in her dreams. In most of her dreams she saw Subhash was at home and they were having a very good time. At about five in the morning, suddenly her eyes opened. She realized that the door bell was ringing. In fact it had rung several times before she heard it.
She was obviously anxious, for no one rang the door bell so early in the morning. She felt a little annoyed because her sweet dream had been shattered; however, she looked at the wall clock. It was ten past five in the morning. Who could it be so early in the morning?
It was Sunday and even the milkman did not come on Sundays. She ignored the door bell and tried to go back to sleep again.
After about a minute, the door bell rang once again. She jumped out of the bed and quickly stood before the mirror. She composed herself and combed her hair and inspected her night gown. Nothing was improper now. She rushed out of the room, towards the main door.
Suddenly, she stopped and moved in other direction. She wanted to make it sure that it was safe to open the door so early in the morning. She quickly climbed the stairs and reached the terrace. From there she saw two Army officers in their uniforms. They looked very serious and determined. Their caps were in their hands.
She rushed downstairs and ran towards the main door. She opened the door and faced the army officers.
