    Chapter One: Sheela’s Life

    The local train going to Church Gate stopped at Mahalaxmi Station. When she alighted along with many other women from the ladies’ compartment, it was raining. Even under the roofed platform, the rain water drenched them quickly.

    It had been raining since morning. It is amazing that the life in Bombay never comes to standstill even if the circumstances are adverse and almost intolerable.

    She began to walk towards the gate, opening towards the road, leading to the Race Course. Unlike the other days, she was in a pink sari. She is not habitual to wearing saris but whenever she goes out with Vidit, she wears a sari because Vidit likes her in a sari. After all he is a client and it is her duty to fulfill the demands made by her customer. Though Vidit is somewhat different from her other clients.

    Suddenly, the mobile phone in her shoulder bag began to ring. A smile ran through her face. She began to think about Vidit, who must be waiting for her outside the station. The phone stopped ringing. It was a miss call from someone known to her. She read the number and dialed again.
