    Chapter 1

So, what are you doing here? Chad asked after he kissed her.

It’s complicated. Lucy’s brain was scrambled. She didn’t want to explain. All she wanted to do was kiss him again.

    Where are you staying?

A townhouse, not far, Lucy said ready to invite him there.

A townhouse? Chad’s distrust got the better of him and he jumped to the conclusion that she must be staying there with a guy.

Absolutely, she said watching Chad’s expression change to pure displeasure as he stepped back and eyed her suspiciously.

"It is a guy’s townhouse, yes?" he asked sounding more like a jealous lover than he liked.

What? Lucy blinked. She didn’t like his tone or the acquisition he was making.

I think I should head back to my hotel now, he said abruptly as he reminded himself this was the very reason he shouldn’t have kissed her in the first place.

Absolutely, she said angrily looking off into the distance.

He turned and walked away. When she looked back, she saw him getting into a taxi. She let out a heavy sigh. The taste of his lips lingered on hers. She took another sip of her coffee. Damn. He’s hot. But what the F. is his problem. She was thunderstruck.

Chad took one last look at her as the taxi pulled onto the street. She was sitting there staring at him with a stunned expression. God, she was beautiful. Their eyes locked for an instant before the taxi drove off.

I have shopping to do, she thought sobering again to her anger, lots of shopping.

As she shopped, visions of Chad invaded her thoughts. She wondered if he was there on a photo shoot. She wondered how on earth he’d run into her. She wondered mostly, why he’d kissed her.

When she returned to the townhouse, the taxi driver took her bags to the door.

Here is fine, Lucy said setting the small bag she had down so she could pay him.

Have a great day, Miss, he said with a wide grin. She waited for him to leave before she punched in the code to open the door. She pushed the bags inside with her foot. Then, she reached into one of the bags and pulled out a shoe box. She lifted the lid and pulled out a metallic wedge. She reached into another bag and found the metallic skirt and a shimmery top. She took off her trousers and top to slip into them.

Absolutely perfect, she said moving to the big oval mirror in the hall.

Camiel will love this, she said as she dug into her purse to retrieve her cell phone. She snapped a picture of herself before calling Camiel.

She’d almost called her right after she’d seen Chad, but didn’t want to rattle on about him. Now, she had something fun to share first.

    Hey, Camiel.

    Lucy, what did you buy?

Check your pics you’ll see my outfit for trolling. It’s absolute!

That is absolute, Camiel said as soon as she brought up the image.

    Of course, Lucy said.

You’re not going out alone, are you? Camiel sounded a bit concerned.

No. I wish you were here. or, Chad hadn’t run off.

I wish I was there too. Well, or you were here in L.A., Camiel said.

Hum, there’s nothing to keep me here. It’s absolutely a beautiful city, but I don’t know anyone. Well, except for Chad.

    "What?
