David Grant. A biographical history of how I came to writing. I am a visual artist. Bodies on the Line is a visual art project which I started over 10 years ago. It was featured in FRINGE WORLD in 2015 and 2017. The project featured charcoal drawings of everyday people in Perth. While posing, models often discussed and talked about just about anything that came into their mind. This included religion, politics, philosophy and especially life and the people of Perth. These thoughts were written on the actual paintings by the model and also in notebooks. The notebooks were later made into printed copies. It soon became clear to me that life in Perth had its own flavour. Relationships seemed to be very problematic. Taking this source of material I decided to write a novel on Perth life. This is where the Judy Dosh series began. It features the lives of a group of imaginary people and their struggles to get on with life and each other.

I knew her from the bakery but decided not to talk to her until she returned, which she duly did at a far more leisurely pace! She was by nature very friendly and said hello which is what I expected, but I didn't expect her to tell me about her sister!

Apparently Lucy had been acting strangely since the weekend! She had refused to come out of her apartment and had asked Sarah (the sister that I was now talking to) to leave groceries outside her door for her! She always waited for Sarah to leave the building before she collected her groceries so Sarah hadn't seen her since Friday.

She had spoken to her on the phone and she had been very normal, just the same Lucy of old. But she avoided answering any questions Sarah asked about why she had locked herself in her apartment.

It was all very strange and I could see that Sarah was very upset about the whole thing!

But things got even more strange the next day because when I went into the bakery Sarah called me aside and said that Lucy had asked if I would pop around to her apartment and visit her!

The reason why I found this so strange was that I wasn't really a
