Crystal Dawn

When she’s not out hunting rogue vampires and werewolves, you can find Crystal Dawn out exploring the galaxy. She can do it all without ever leaving her computer. She kicks ass, takes names, and puts it all down for the enjoyment of her readers. At least that’s what I think she told me. Writing came as a natural outlet for her overly creative mind. She has always told stories and even written some but publishing books didn't start until 2012 with The Rebirth, was the first of the Planet Amazon books. Crystal has also been lucky to have some wonderful beta readers who keep her on track and help inspire her.Secretly, she crushes on all her sexy heroes because all her stories end happily. That is one of the things that makes writing such a joy. Knowing that it makes her reader's day a little brighter. Not that she doesn't read sad books sometimes. While still in school, she read Where the Red Fern Grows and cried like a baby. It was a wonderful book and sometimes a bit of sadness has to be put in books because that's part of life. While she reads all kinds of books at some time or another, PNR and SFR, which she writes is what she reads the most for pleasure. When she started writing, she decided on going Indie after the first two books because an author has more control. She believes Indie will compete well and continues to grow. The need to give pleasure to her readers keeps her going and she sees a long career ahead. Growing up mostly in the NW Arkansas area, it has given her a good place to set some stories and many of her characters come from there or nearby SW Missouri. The start of her stories is the easy part. Finishing them is a little harder when all the stories are in there trying to get out. She loves reading, chocolate, fine sweet wine, and traveling among a large list of pursuits. Her favorite people, after her family and close friends, are her readers who she says are some of the most wonderful people in this galaxy and the next.

    Blue Moon Pack

    Book 1

    Too Blue

Out in the middle of nowhere, that’s where the Blue Moon Pack lived. They were a collection of misfits, rogues, and assorted oddballs, but they wanted mates too. Blue was perhaps the loneliest of all although he was also the one who always seemed to be the hardest to please when it came to making plans to correct the problem. They were going to start having singles getaways to bring potential mates to them. They were also going to hire extra single help that would be more possible mates.

It seemed like a good plan until Blue met Rainy the new bartender. Just one look told him she’d be nothing but trouble. A second look told him she’d be the best kind. Now if only Blue could decide what to do before any of those other loose male wolves moved in. If he managed to claim her, he just knew she was going to drive him crazy for the rest of his life. In the very best possible way.

    Prologue

Sunny had come in search of her twin. The whole family was worried about her but as her twin, Sunny had been chosen to get down there and find out what was going on. So far, she could tell them this place was off the beaten path and looked like an old time western town. Rainy had said she was working in the local bar but not that it was the biggest building in town. It made it easier to find and Sunny planned to drag her out of this one horse town and all the way back home. Unfortunately, things didn’t look like they were going to work out like that.

    Sunny

    Chapter 1

    Jerry

    Sunny

I rolled into town and took a look around the place neither liking nor hating it. It was just a spot in the road, but it had the largest bar I’d seen in such a small town, ever. I didn’t care because I wasn’t planning to stay long. Once I found Rainy, my sister, my twin actually, I planned to drag her ass all the way home if I had to. Her need to escape, I could understand, but it was time to come home. Everyone missed her like crazy and I missed her most of all.

I walked up to the saloon style doors, cute, and I pushed my way in as the doors swung back and forth behind me drawing the eye of every person in the room. Looking around, I bellied on up to the bar feeling like an old west outlaw about to kidnap a guy and drag him home. There was a time I used to be considered the good girl and I never realized how much fun this bad behavior could really be. Walking right up and sitting down next to this gorgeous tall, dark, and muscular stranger, I felt pretty confident. He looked more dreamy than scary, but he did have a gun strapped on as well as a deputy badge and I wondered if it was real. If it were, this would be the beta of the pack. The handcuffs hanging off his belt looked real enough. They gave me naughty thoughts about having him cuffed to a bed.

I’m sure he just saw the shy innocent girl I used to be, but he sure looked interested. What would you like? he asked and then he just stared at me.

    I’ll take a tomboy.

He started to say he didn’t know what that was but Rainy appeared out of nowhere and explained my drink preferences. Sunny? I heard him asked.

Yes, this is Sunny my twin.

She’s not just a little different. You two look nothing alike.

I commented on the truth of that statement while Rainy went on explaining who took after who to the guy she called Jerry. Watching the alpha approach, I barely listened. He was Rainy’s mate, I’d swear to it and the look on their faces told me I’d have no luck getting her home. She introduced us and I came to a new decision, I would stay a while and see how things went for my twin and I would check out the local wildlife. There was some interesting game in town and if I couldn’t do what I’d come for, I could come up with a new plan and go on the hunt.

Sweetie, you awake? Rainy asked. I’ve been talking to you, but you were just spacing out.

Actually, I was staring out at some of the males in this place. Wow, that was all I could say, and I wasn’t sure what I should do since I didn’t want to cause Rainy any trouble, but I was getting quite an itch.

What were you saying? I asked absent-mindedly deciding I’d talk to Rainy about the guys in here before I did my thing.

Do you want to stay at our house?

You’ve got to be kidding? I might see something that makes me jealous or makes me go blind.

Why doesn’t she just take your old room upstairs for now until she gets some rest, and we have a chance to talk about her plans? Blue said wisely.

    What he said, I agreed.

Jerry, why don’t you help Sunny settle in and I’m going to get my mate home, he suggested.

    Sure thing, Jerry said.

As I followed him up the stairs, I watched his tight ass as he hurried up one flight after the other. He walked to a room and used a key on his chain to open the door. It was like an efficiency apartment with a small bedroom and one big room for everything else. Oh, yeah, there was a closet size bathroom. Good thing I wasn’t picky, and I didn’t need much.

Thanks man, I said as I dropped my small bag on the floor.

No problem. If you need anything just ask. There didn’t seem to be anything flirtatious in his tone and I just watched as he turned around and left. Since I was bone ass weary, I stripped off my clothes, just left them lay, and stumbled to bed. In the morning, I would make my decisions after I’d gotten some rest.

Morning came, I still felt tired, but I got up and took a shower, dressed, and headed downstairs to find some breakfast. It looked like the bar had breakfast in the back for employees and pack members. No, it wasn’t free, but it was cheap, and they were allowed to run a tab until payday when they had to settle their bill. I thought it was a very nice thing they did. Rainy, Blue, and Jerry were sitting at a table so I joined them figuring I’d get a better feel for things in the light of day, at least I hoped I would. Jerry was looking fine, with his dark eyes, hair, and skin. I liked the tall, dark, and handsome ones the best. I gave some thought to going for him but if I wasn’t going to stay long, no matter how attractive he was that long term feel wasn’t there. I wasn’t picking up that kind of interest from him either, at least not once he knew who I was.

They were already halfway through their meal when I ordered mine and I was starved to death, so I ordered the big steak meal. Feeling I would need all the energy I could get to figure out what I wanted to do I felt that meal would help me. I thought I might take a job if one were available and I had experience as a waitress and I wouldn’t mind learning to tend bar though I knew I wouldn’t be as good as Rainy was at it. Few people were. First, I needed to figure out the dynamics around here so I wouldn’t step in the shit. Suspecting there were certain males I should leave be unless I was serious about them, which I didn’t think that would happen, I was determined to be cautious.

Too tired of being sought as a precious white wolf, I was worried that all these guys would know soon, if they didn’t already, exactly who I was. Of course, they would think I was the sweet one and that hadn’t been true since Rainy had left.

Rainy would be in for one hell of a shock because I’d finally broke out of that good girl mold and went to town. It may only have been a few months, but I had done things that would shock my naughty sister. Why? So that no male would look at me and think mate if he found out who I was. It wasn’t that I didn’t want a man that was mine someday. No, it was that I wanted a man that was mine, just plain old Sunny’s and not the mate of some legendary white wolf. I was completely with Rainy on objecting to being chased for my blood and not myself.

So, are there any jobs around here? I asked.

What are you looking to do? Blue asked with his eyes narrowed.

I’m one hell of a waitress and I wouldn’t mind learning how to tend bar, but I’ve not done it, I replied.

You never wanted to before, Rainy said and her eyes were narrowed now too.

Why was everyone around here so suspicious? I’ve changed since you’ve been gone, I said with a careless shrug.

I see that, Rainy said her mouth pursed into a grimace like she smelled something unpleasant.

Change is not only expected, but it can also be good, I replied.

There’s no way I’m going home with you so you might as well get over it, Rainy muttered.

So, you’re running me out of town because I miss my twin and I want to spend some time with her and make sure she’s happy? I asked.

Of course not, you melodramatic princess, Rainy complained.

Hey, when you left, they all turned to me, I griped.

Sorry, Sis, Rainy said and I thought she meant it.

You can make it up to me by giving me a job and spending some time with me, I offered perfectly willing to take advantage of her guilt.

Rainy sighed heavily but I knew I’d won. It had actually never occurred to me that she might not want me there. That would be just plain wrong since we were twins, two halves of one whole, right? This would give me the perfect chance to spy on her and decide if this new life and new mate were good for her or not. If things weren’t the way they appeared on the surface, I would be dragging her back home for an intervention until she saw things properly. Would I feel guilty about it? Hell, no because nothing mattered more to me than she did, and no one would take advantage of her except for me. That’s because I only did it for her own good.

When I looked up, I saw Blue watching me thoughtfully. Jerry was giving me a questioning look as if he wasn’t sure if I was good or bad. Bad, that was the answer but never to my family. I just winked at him and he looked away almost like it embarrassed him. Blue and Rainy left me with Jerry so I supposed my future as an employee or not was in his strong capable hands.

If you really want to learn to tend bar, now is the best time. We aren’t too busy, so I have time to show you some things. You’ll be a waitress mostly, until you can work the bar alone, Jerry explained.

Sounds good to me, I agreed. He led the way and I followed.

Once behind the bar, he showed me where everything went. It’ll take a while to remember it all but that’s no big deal, Jerry said.

A guy came in and sat down at the bar, so Jerry went over to him. What would you like to drink? he asked.

Whatever you have on tap, the guy says.

Jerry takes the opportunity to show me how to pour the beer just right. He sets it in front of the guy and grabs the five off the bar. Once he rings it up, he puts the change in front of the guy. It’s odd how close Jerry is watching him.

Is he a troublemaker? I asked nodding toward the man.

No, well I don’t know. Never seen this guy before and we don’t get many new faces around here, Jerry admitted.

Now I’m nervous since I left my own form of trouble behind when I came here and I’d heard when Rainy did that, her trouble followed her here. Surely that wouldn’t happen twice. I thought of Phillip and I was sure he wouldn’t give up, but how would he find me here? I assured myself he wouldn’t. This guy was just a random stranger not a scout for my ex-boyfriend. My case of nerves hadn’t gone unnoticed.

You alright? Jerry asked. I just nodded, it was too soon to exchange confidences even though I suspected if I stayed here long Jerry and I would become friends.

The stranger just sat sipping his beer and looking around like a tourist would. After a while Jerry and I got busy between the bar and food orders and I forgot all about the guy. Jerry knew his shit and he was a patient and thorough trainer. I had the food part in hand and my learning drinks was well underway. They had a little mini file, the kind used for recipes that listed ingredients and how to make every drink that had ever been ordered in here. They even had a couple of signature drinks they’d made up just for the enjoyment of their customers.

One of those was the Orange Blossom Song. It was a complicated drink with OJ, three types of orange liquors, cherry grenadine, a few other odd items, and finally was served as a frozen drink. I tried one and I was hooked. The other one was Blue’s whiskey sour. It was just a different twist on the well-known drink. They had a special hot sauce they added to it which sounded beyond weird to me. Jerry said eventually I’d have to try it. Bartenders had to try all the drinks so they would know how they were supposed to taste. I would have to do that either after work or on my day off. Probably, I’d go through all of them in one day. Tying one on appealed to me because I could forget my troubles at least for a short time.

Jerry slid a hamburger that looked as big as my head on the bar next to me. Eat something girl so you don’t pass out.

Thinking back, I realized it was the end of my shift and I’d not eaten since breakfast. That would normally not be a problem, but I’d been running my ass off all day long. This just might be the only place to eat in town, I realized. Since I hadn’t been here long, I’d not had the time to look around and see what this place had to offer. It wasn’t like I couldn’t do that anytime I wasn’t working. Just not today, I was too damn tired.

I tried to pick up the hamburger and take a bite, but it was too big. Built for a wolf size appetite, it would do me for the rest of the day if I could break it into a few smaller parts. Jerry handed me a knife and I cut it into four strips making it easy to eat. That I managed to eat the whole thing, was a surprise. Must be the air around here or something. He slid a drink along the bar, and it stopped right in front of me. Looking at it suspiciously, I saw it was the Orange thingy. The other drink wasn’t even going to be attempted unless I was too drunk to be bothered by it.

Taking a sip, I was pleasantly surprised as the orange and cherry sweetness burst on my tongue. This might be my new favorite. Thanks, I declared. Jerry just nodded and grunted. It was often the way with alpha types. That was where the phrase strong and silent came from.

Work was done for the day and I hadn’t seen my sister or her new mate all day. It also occurred to me I had nothing to do and no place to go except upstairs to my room which wasn’t appealing. Jerry hadn’t gotten ready to leave and I realized he was pulling a double and covering the night shift.

So, you live behind the bar? I asked.

The night bartender had a personal emergency. Happens now and then, her boyfriend sucks, Jerry explained.

    You double often? I asked.

Only every now and then. Once we pull you into the regular schedule, everyone will have a little bit more flexibility on time off, he admitted.

This wasn’t a favor, you guys actually needed more help?

Yeah, but if you hadn’t showed up, we would have managed, he observed.

Why not hire someone if you need them?

Bringing in a lot of humans in a hidden community of shifters isn’t easy. Finding paranormals to work jobs like these ain’t easy either since most hang with their own pack or kind. Most of our applicants are human. It’s only when someone calls out or needs off that we run short. We do fine most of the time, but you’ll work out and make things easier on us until you leave.

Already wanting me gone. That’s not very flattering.
