Chapter One:
It was a beautiful day in New York, people rushing to get to work, while others were gathering in the park for an event that was going on. The streets were packed and horns blowing because the traffic was so bad. Some people would never understand why people blow their horns when the vehicle in front of them can’t go anywhere either.
A construction worker watched as two men got into an argument about the last paper on the newsstand. For about two minutes, the construction worker was having a laugh and then went back to what he was doing.
High up in the TEC building, John Woodlock was in a meeting with his people. He was talking to him about how well the business was going and that they all were doing a good job. John was the boss that everyone wanted; he was fair, kind, and outgoing. He was also a family man, he has a daughter named, Stacy who is in New York with him, but she is back at the hotel. John has been with the company for nine years and it’s still growing.
Stacy sat up in her bed and noticed that she didn’t hear her father in the other room so she went to check. Opening the door, she headed out into the main room to see that maybe he was in the kitchen. Seeing a note on the table, she read that he was at a meeting and that she should go out and do something fun for the day.
Stacy put the note back on the table and smiled. Stacy was an eighteen year old and knew how to have fun. She headed back into her room to get ready and then she left the room.
Walking outside and looking around, she didn’t know where to start her tour. While standing there, she saw a music store and decided that would be her first stop.
John stood in front of the group talking about how he wanted to go global with the company. He was impress that everyone in the room agreed with him.
I know this is not part of the discussion, but I was wondering if you were having the party this year.
Chuck asked.
Yes, I am doing it for Charity this time.
John said back.
John was happy that he brought that up because he didn’t know if he was going to talk about it while at work, but this was the best time to get off work talk and talk about something else. John loved having parties at his house and this time it was for Charity.
What would the theme be?
Stan asked.
I’m not sure; I know we are going to have it out in the maze behind my house.
You have a Maze?
Stan asked.
Yes, you remember the last time you were there; it’s in the back yard.
John reminded him.
Wow, you mean to tell me it’s that big already?
Chuck asked.
Yes, I can’t even see over the top anymore.
Stacy looked around the music store for something that she might want to buy, when two boys walked up to her and started following her around. She didn’t notice it at first, but then when she turned around to go back to a CD that she saw, she ran into them.
What the hell!
Sorry, we couldn’t help looking at you.
One boy said.
Excuse me?
Look at you, you’re hot.
Stacy didn’t like being talk to that way and turned to leave the store. Walking outside and taking in the air, she decided to head to the park to see what was going on there. Stacy stopped to look at some shops they had set up in the park and then she heard a band start up.
Later that day, Stacy walked up to the hotel room and pulled out her key. Walking in, she saw that her father was watching TV.
Hey dad
Hey honey, how was your day?
Not bad and yours
She asked back.
John looked over at her and with a big smile he told her that his company was going global. Stacy was glad and asked if he wanted anything to drink but he said no. Walking into the kitchen she could hear him still talking about the meeting.
Are any of them coming to the party?
She called out from the kitchen.
I’m not sure, but when we get back home, I need to see who all is coming.
He said back.
Stacy sat down next to him and asked how long are they going to be there in New York, and he told her that they were there for two more days. Stacy wanted to go back because she misses Kyle, her boyfriend. She also knew that they hadn’t had time together like this after her mom died.
What do you think mom would say about your company?
She asked.
Well, I’m sure she would be happy for me and that she would like us to be happy as well.
I miss her so much.
I know, so do I.
He answered back.
After dinner, Stacy headed to her room to get some sleep and her father did the same. She sat there in her bed thinking about her mother and all the things that they’ll never get to do together.
The next morning, Stacy got up and after she had got ready, she headed into the living room. She could smell the food cooking in the kitchen and sat down at the table.
Good morning.
John said.
Good morning dad, hey what do you have to do today?
Well today, I figured that we would do things together.
He said, as he brought over a plate of food.
While they were eating, Stacy heard her cell ringing and got up to answer it. Seeing that it was Kyle, she giggled and then answers it.
Hey, how are you doing?
She asked.
I have great news to tell you.
What is it?
Well you know what we have been talking about, well I found a place.
Stacy couldn’t believe her ears; she turned to look at her father and then smiled.
That’s great, but Kyle, I’m not ready to move out of my house yet.
Oh I know the house won’t be ready until we graduate.
Really
She said back happily.
John walked into the living room and wondered what she was so excited about. He sat down on the couch next to where she was standing and once she noticed him, she sat down next to him.
Kyle I need to go, dad and I are going out to do stuff.
Ok, I love you and can’t wait to see you.
He said.
After she hung up, she told her father what they were talking about and she waited for a response. John got up and walked around the room, and then he headed over to the window and looked outside.
Dad, what’s wrong?
Kyle is a great guy, and I can’t say how happy I am that he wants to wait until you both are out of school.
Why do I feel like there’s something you’re not telling me.
John turned around to face her and she could see something was on his mind, just from the look on his face. He walked over and sat down next to her, reaching for her hand he told her.
I was hoping that you both would stay in our house.
"What, oh daddy, you’re the best, but are you
