    Beautiful Pleasures Part 3 - E.J. Adams

    CHAPTER 1

    Taylor Madison

I woke in a hospital bed. I was still a little foggy-headed. I could see that my parents were at my bedside. Stephanie, Vicki, and Daniel were also in the room.

    What happened? I asked groggily.

We're at Memorial Hospital. You'll be just fine, dear, said my mother. And you are safe. She had been crying. It looked as if she was trying to hold herself together.

Mom, have you been crying? I asked.

A little. Mostly tears of joy that everything will be okay, she replied.

Sweetie, we're all here now. Everything will be okay, we promise, my dad said. He turned to my sister and brother. Vicki, now that Taylor is awake, why don't you take Daniel to the cafeteria for a snack. He handed Vicki some money.

We'll be back shortly. I'm so glad you are okay, Vicki said as she hugged me.

Me too, said Daniel. He had a smile on his face, but only gave me a partial hug. He was in that tween phase where he didn't like to openly express affection to his family with hugs or kisses. Mom was relentless in pouring hugs and kisses on him anyways.

When Vicki and Daniel left the room, Stephanie joined my parents beside the bed. My parents were on my right, and Stephanie on my left. Stephanie picked up my hand and gave it a squeeze.

I'm so sorry, Taylor, she said.

Stephanie, it wasn't your fault, said my dad.

Please, somebody tell me what is going on, I said. My head was clearing and I was starting to remember more. Nonetheless, I could only remember up to a certain point with any clarity at all. The last thing that I fully remember was getting sick while I was talking to that guy. I paused a moment to recall his name. Justin.

My mother shuddered. I don't even want to hear that name, she said.

Apparently that creep slipped something in your drink. He drugged you, said Stephanie. I'm just sorry that I didn't notice you were gone sooner.

Stephanie, please, don't blame yourself for what happened, said my mom.

Fortunately, that is all that happened, said my dad.

I can't even think about this anymore, said my mom.

Honey, Taylor has the right to know, said my dad.

I just can't stand to hear it again, my mom said.

Why don't we get a cup of coffee, my dad said. We'll be back in a few minutes.

    Stephanie and I both nodded.

That will be fine, I said. We watched them leave.

After my parents left the room, Stephanie turned back toward me.

What happened was hard for your parents to hear, she said.

Steph, can we get to what happened? Like I said, the last thing that I remember was feeling sick. I was on the front porch talking to Justin. I vaguely remember him helping me. It's all really fuzzy after that. But you are saying he drugged me?

Yes. We found you on the backseat of his car, said Stephanie.

    We?

I was with Jack, Kerry, Rob, and Amanda. We went looking for you, said Stephanie. They were old high school friends of ours.

That's right, I said with a slight grin, you were making out with Jack.

We can talk about that later, said Stephanie. Kerry saw that scumbag by his car. We were hoping maybe he had seen you. We approached him and he seemed kinda nervous. He said he didn't even know who you were. We described what you looked like. He said he hadn't seen you. I don't know, but he just seemed really suspicious. He went to get in his car and Rob and Jack stopped him. Asked if they could check his car. He objected, but they checked anyway. That's when we found you on the backseat of his car.

    So he drugged me and? . . . what? . . . was he going to? . . .

Taylor, none of us want to think about what might have happened. But he didn't have anything nice planned.

I started crying. Stephanie was crying as well.

I never should have been making out with Jack. I should have stuck by you the entire evening, Stephanie cried.

    It's not your fault, I said. Don't blame yourself. We're adults. I just can't believe . . .

I know, said Stephanie. I am so glad that Kerry saw him by the car and that Jack and Rob were with us.

But they're positive that nothing happened? Beyond my being drugged, I mean?

Yes. Your clothes weren't disturbed in any way. The police seemed confident that nothing happened. The hospital ran tests to be sure. Taylor, Justin didn't touch you. Thankfully, he never got the chance.

I'm so glad you guys found me when you did, I said.

    Sweetie, we all are.

So what happened after that? I asked.

"Jack and Rob pinned the asshole against the car. We called the police and an ambulance. I mean you were breathing and all, but you were out cold. We figured he had
