Introduction: The Failures

Her name is Failure. She is standing in the distance as an elderly man talks to a tombstone in a graveyard. The tombstone is where the man’s wife was laid to rest ten years ago. The man often comes to talk to his wife about his life. As he cries, he yells out, I’m sorry, but I just can’t do it. I can’t go on. Before she died, his wife made him promise that he would live out his lifelong dream of becoming a published author. Over the past ten years, the man had written many manuscripts, but he feared sending them to publishers because of the stinging criticism he had experienced in the past. One publisher told him he should never write again and that he should try another occupation. As tears fall from the man’s face, he says to himself, It just wasn’t meant to be. The man sheds his final tear and takes his last breath as he falls to the ground, dead.

Failure looks at the scene and immediately smiles. She walks toward the man, kneels down, and gently closes his eyelids. Looking up at the sky, she screams, Six billion and counting!

Failure gets stronger every time a person gives up or quits in life, and then she collects their goals and dreams like trophies. She loves to walk through graveyards, or what she calls her playgrounds. She says people don’t realize that graveyards are the most valuable places in the world, because most people die with their talents, gifts, and dreams still inside them. Great books, Failure insists, will never be published. Big businesses will never be started, and powerful singers will never be heard.

Looking down from the clouds of hope, far up in the sky above, is Success. As he shakes his head, he laments, She’s done it again! Immediately, his associates scurry to his office. Their names are Passion, Vision, Strategy, and Perseverance.

Where were you guys when he was in the middle of quitting? asks Success. Perseverance replies, It was over. He ignored me. I tried to get his attention in many forms, but Failure unleashed Fear and Doubt, and I could not get him to overcome them. He just ran out of hope.

Passion, Vision, Strategy, do you have anything to say?

With all due respect, sir, it has been ten years, and since he never developed Perseverance, all we could do is keep showing him what he already knew over time, says Passion.

This is not good, Success replies. She is getting stronger. Less than 20 percent of everyday people down there in that world actually achieve their dreams. She is making all of us more irrelevant by the hour. Why is it so hard for people to become me? I am simply joy, peace, and happiness.

As Success grills his associates for letting another person fall victim to Failure, Failure returns to her office, where her associates Procrastination, Fear, Doubt, and Hate are all celebrating another destroyed dream. As they toast with champagne, Doubt looks his partner Fear in the eyes and says, You and I are unstoppable. Do you realize that we are responsible for murdering more dreams than the Devil himself? Fear laughs, raises her glass, and says, To us, the real Dream Team!

They’re both laughing as Failure walks in and stares all of them down with an unsatisfied glare in her eyes. The room falls silent, no one moves, they barely breathe. Failure pours herself a drink, sits down in her chair, and smiles. She raises her glass and exclaims, To mediocrity! They all raise their glasses and repeat, To mediocrity! and resume their celebration.

Chapter 1:

Success vs. Failure

You can be anything you want to be in life.

Between the two worlds of Success and Failure continues everyday life. Failure gets weaker when everyday people work hard, persevere, have no doubt and no fear. Failure is afraid of becoming irrelevant and does not want everyday people to become successful.

Success wants people to work hard so they appreciate him, and when they become him, they will experience everlasting joy, peace, and happiness as a result of reaching their full potential. However, Success cannot allow people to become successful until they experience Failure. Failure and her team roam among everyday people in everyday life, while Success and his team observe from high above in the clouds of hope, and cannot directly intervene in the affairs of everyday life, until, that is, people start to seek him and aspire to become successful.
