WINNING LETTER

I CLEARLY remember the day I was dropped off at university as a young and nervous first-year student. My mom, aunt and uncle helped me unpack and settle into my res room before giving me a tight hug and wishing me well on my new chapter.

I watched them drive off while waving and fighting back the tears.

It was my first time living away from home and having to find new comforts – which definitely didn’t come in the form of dining-hall food!

But this was also a significant time in my life. I made lifelong friends and learnt so much about who I am and what I wanted for myself.

For young people preparing for their next chapter – either heading into tertiary education for the first time, entering the work market or even taking a gap year – try to enjoy every moment and embrace the uncertainty.
