Angela placed a washed pot onto the dish rack and turned off the water.  She heard the front door opening and closing.  She walked out and poked her head out of the kitchen to see her tired husband wander in, slumped forward as usual.  She smiled and rushed out to give him a hug.

Hey honey!  Angela greeted.

Hey, her husband replied in his usual tired response.

Angela gave him a tight hug, which he tried to reciprocate but didn’t quite meet her affection levels.  She helped him take his coat off and hung it on the coat rack.  He took his hat off and placed it next to his coat and then headed straight for the sofa.

Long day?  Angela asked.

The usual, he replied with a sigh as he slumped down on the sofa.

He was a doctor at one of the busiest hospitals in town and unfortunately for both of them, it was flu season.  He’d had an influx of patients that caused him to stay later than normal, leaving early and coming home late.  The unfortunate aspect was that his specialty was more around surgical procedures but due to some internal politics, he was being put at bay, working menial tasks.

Angela smiled and sat on his lap.  She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in close to give his cheek a kiss.  He responded

Solid rewrite of the story by Stormbringer and the subsequent comics. Some small typos, but otherwise nice quick read with parts 2 and 3 still left for those interested.
