Monica headed for the courtesy phones near baggage-claim at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. She had just come from a very unsatisfactory confrontation with an apologetic clerk over her missing luggage. She lifted the handset for her hotel she had booked for the conference and tried to call for a courtesy van.

I’m sorry Ms. Williams but your reservation isn’t until tomorrow.

What? I booked this flight and hotel myself! Monica searched her purse for her copy of the reservation. She scanned the page and noted the dates. She had made a mistake.

Do you have a room available? She asked, her heart sinking with dread at trying to find another hotel in a city hosting an international convention on the Environment.

I’m sorry Ms. Williams but we’re completely booked for today. Can I refer you to another hotel?

I suppose I haven’t a choice, do I?

After a moment’s pause, the lady on the other end of the line said I’m sorry Ms. Williams but I don’t see any rooms at any affiliated hotel in the area. I’m sure there must be something further out, but I don’t have a connection to them.
