    Wicked Endings - Teresa Gabelman

    CHAPTER 1

Dani walked into Assjacket, her eyes searching the area. She was a nervous wreck, but what needed to be done needed to be done. A job, place to sleep and try her best to get her life back in order. Dread filled her stomach rising to her throat, but she pushed her fears to the back of her mind. She didn’t have time for that. Not now. Maybe later once her day was finished, she would have the nervous breakdown she deserved.

Seeing a help wanted sign in the window of a cute building ahead of her, Dani headed that way. The sign read Wicked Delight Bakery. What a cute name, she thought as she made her way inside.

The bakery was decorated with small tables that were full of people enjoying sweet treats. She noticed the women giving her a quick glance, a few smiled her way before going back to their business of eating. The men on the other hand openly glared at her in disgust. Unfortunately, she was used to this treatment from men, and it wasn’t because she was a little overweight.

Can I help you. A woman’s breathless voice pulled her away from her thoughts.

Glancing that way she saw a beautiful woman, looking a little frantic with a smudge of what looked like chocolate on her nose. Dani walked toward the counter, then pointed at her own nose. You have a tiny bit of chocolate on the tip of your nose.

The woman went cross-eyed as she looked down. She pulled her apron up and swiped it away. Thank you. She said with a grin. Guess I need to look in the mirror before greeting customers. I’m surprised that’s all I’ve got on my face.

Dani smiled liking the woman instantly.

Is that all I have on my face? She asked after noticing Dani’s huge grin.

Yes. Dani chuckled then shrugged. Hey, you’re just showing what you all have to offer.

True. She laughed then shook her head. So, what can I help you with? I have fresh pineapple upside-down cupcakes fresh out of the oven.

Are you the owner? Dani asked hoping she was.

I am. The woman replied, then added. Along with my sister-in-law who can’t boil water and is never here, but you didn’t hear me say that.

My lips are sealed. Dani said hoping the good feeling she had about this place wasn’t going to just be another disappointment on her long list of disappointments. I’m Dani by the way. I was hoping to talk to you about the sign you have in the front window. Has the position been filled?

Can you boil water? She asked looking just as hopeful as Dani felt.

I can. Dani nodded earnestly. Never once burnt it.

You’re hired. She blurted with a huge sigh of relief.

Oh, ah, I am? Dani replied a little shocked at the abruptness. She’d had quite a few jobs and never had she been hired on the spot.

I’m Monica. Monica stuck her hand over the counter and clasped Dani’s in a quick shake. Follow me.

Dani looked down at her hand to see chocolate on her fingers. Glancing around she noticed everyone was staring at her. A few of the women smiled giving her a nod as the men continued their glares of disgust.

Are you coming? Monica called out as she stood by a set of double doors. Please tell me you haven’t changed your mind already.

Dani hurried past the staring customers as she walked around the corner toward Monica. Of course not.

Whew, I thought I may have scared you off with my eagerness. Monica seemed to melt with relief, but then straightened back up and led her into the back of the bakery.

Actually, Dani was a little weary of the quickness of her being hired, and when she walked into the back she realized why. It was a complete and total disaster area. Dani stopped and just stared. Flour and other ingredients littered the floor, the metal baking table and even the walls. Dishes were piled up in the sink and on the sink making their way toward the ceiling. Oh, my. Dani whispered, but Monica heard her and gasped.

Please don’t quit. Monica begged. I will pay you good, give you insurance with dental and whatever else you want. Just please don’t turn around and leave.

Dani felt bad for Monica and put her hand on the woman’s arm. I’m not going anywhere. And normal pay will do just fine. I don’t need insurance. I just need a steady job.

I have so many backorders to fill and a cake for a very important birthday that has to be perfect, then with all the customers coming in I just can’t keep up. All my help has quit because it’s so much work and… Monica was on the edge of losing it. Dani knew the signs quite well because she’d been there and done that many times, just different circumstances.

You do the baking and I’ll start on those dishes. You tell me what else needs to be done and together we will get it done. Dani said taking control of the situation. We can talk later about my duties and such. Okay?

You’re an absolute angel. Monica sighed with such relief Dani smiled. If I had time to cry, I’d cry.

I’m far from an angel. Dani snorted, then headed toward the sink and dishes. And by the looks of this place I’d say you deserve a good cry, but let’s get done what needs to get done and then maybe we will both have a good cry over a pineapple upside-down cupcake.

Deal. Monica gave her a nod as she headed toward the metal baking table.

Glancing at all the dishes, pots, pans, and baking sheets Dani felt a few of her own tears building up. Glancing over her shoulder she knew without a doubt these dishes were going to get done more quickly with a little witchcraft. She needed to be careful, too much witchcraft could give her location away, but no way was she going to do all of this without it. It was a chance she was going to have to take, she just hoped she didn’t regret it.

    CHAPTER 2

Butch rode through Assjacket heading straight toward the Diner. He glanced around as he rode slowly through noticing not much had changed since the last time he’d been there. His cousin Mac was having his birthday party, okay Mac wasn’t having it, his better half was throwing him the party. Zelda was a great fit for his cousin. To say he was shocked that Mac had finally settled down was an understatement, but there was no one better suited for his, set in his ways, relative than Zelda the Shifter Wanker of Assjacket.
