Bronn Francis is an empty nester who lives with her husband and spoiled moggy cat in the Eastern part of the State of Victoria in Australia. When Covid 19 came and made everyone do things differently, Bronn and a couple of friends decided that they would stop being just readers and try their our hands at being authors too. One of their small group had been playing at creating a world for his stories to be located in. When Bronn asked to be allowed to use the world her friend has created, she was told to "go for it". As long as she agreed to let the others in the group use her characters in cameo roles. Bronn agreed in a flash. Bronn is a woman of a certain age, as they say in books. Bronn and the other group members wanted to publish as many books as possible which led to a group decision to focus on writing short stories. That way Bronn and her friends could get more stories written and published for you to read. Maybe some novellas will appear over time.. Bronn loves to read romances with a HEA so she's sticking to writing them for a while. When she's not writing Bronn loves to go and photograph interesting places in the bush. Then try painting them. Some are recognisable. If you enjoy Bronn's stories, do please tell your friends. If you don't, Please tell Bronn. So she can learn from her mistakes.

    CHAPTER 1

When the phone rang in Connie’s office at The Bookcase she noticed that it was listed as a private number so she almost rejected the call but somehow her spidey senses told her that the call was important. To the caller at least. It was still a surprise when she tapped the accept button on her phone.

Her ear was immediately assaulted by a mixture of French and English. She thought for a moment trying to decide who she knew who spoke like this whenever she was upset or excited. Twenty years in the Army mixing with people who spoke a host of different languages gave her a working knowledge of several of them. French being one from when she had a couple of French woman in same Army Company as her. Then it came to her.

Mireille, lentemont! Lentemont! Slow down you crazy woman."

Her words must have somehow got through because her caller became silent.

Let’s begin again Mireille. Slowly this time. Tell me what the matter is and how I can help you. Said Connie calmly.

Warrant you said to me when I was discharged that if I ever needed help or advice I could come to you. Well I definitely need both of those now. Please you must help me. I have no one else to ask. Mireille told her.

Mireille I meant what I said the last time we spoke to each other on the day that you were discharged so that you could go off and marry Terry Waldron. Let’s start with that shall we? Said Connie again speaking as calmly as she could to help Mireille relax a little.

Oui, I did marry Terry. I helped nurse him after he was blown up by the roadside bomb. He was lucky that he only got a broken arm and a broken cheek bone but he did lose his spleen as well. It could have been much worse though. He could have been killed. Back then I was madly in love with him. Not anymore. He changed when we came to Australia. He was coming home but I was a refugee of sorts. It was easy for him to just pick up where he left off but I had to learn a new way of life. But that’s not the problem. It didn’t begin to show up until a couple of years later, but Terry brought home a case of PTSD. He began to go days without speaking. It didn’t matter what I did or said it was wrong. Finally he went a step too far and hit me. I’m a soldier or I was so I wasn’t putting up with that so I hit back. He didn’t like that I defended myself so it ended up un combat de chiens... A dogfight. Mireille answered.

Okay then. What happened next? Surely you could have done something to help Terry. Asked Connie.

"Terry just took off. I didn’t see him for weeks. Then one day he came back. No apologies. Nothing. It was as if he had somehow forgotten
