Bronn Francis is an empty nester who lives with her husband and spoiled moggy cat in the Eastern part of the State of Victoria in Australia. When Covid 19 came and made everyone do things differently, Bronn and a couple of friends decided that they would stop being just readers and try their our hands at being authors too. One of their small group had been playing at creating a world for his stories to be located in. When Bronn asked to be allowed to use the world her friend has created, she was told to "go for it". As long as she agreed to let the others in the group use her characters in cameo roles. Bronn agreed in a flash. Bronn is a woman of a certain age, as they say in books. Bronn and the other group members wanted to publish as many books as possible which led to a group decision to focus on writing short stories. That way Bronn and her friends could get more stories written and published for you to read. Maybe some novellas will appear over time.. Bronn loves to read romances with a HEA so she's sticking to writing them for a while. When she's not writing Bronn loves to go and photograph interesting places in the bush. Then try painting them. Some are recognisable. If you enjoy Bronn's stories, do please tell your friends. If you don't, Please tell Bronn. So she can learn from her mistakes.

    CHAPTER 1

HAVE YOU EVER JUST legitimately got teary-eyed when you’ve accomplished something awesome? No? Must only be me? Here I am, about to graduate from University. My Mum and my sisters are both waiting and watching for me to cross the stage and to be honest I’m as nervous as heck. I’m getting my journalism degree. I know the only thing standing in my way is me.  Sure, I’m not valedictorian or anything, but I still completely aced the last semester. Got distinctions and everything.

I might have even showed up on time to my other classes. You know, because to some kids University only means rocking up to take some test if they are sober enough or far enough down from a high. I’m a few years older so it means a lot more to me. I’m not the smart sister. But Mum and Bianca just kept on pushing. Ever so gently. They made sure that I got to lectures. Finished my assignments on time. I simply love them for that. And for everything else too. I hate getting ready for important things. I hate that these black crow gowns are so loosely fitted. They do nothing for my figure and hello, let’s not even talk about the fact that they don’t have any pockets. Seriously, I need to invent a gown that can hold my cellphone and a bottle of water because it gets mighty hot up under all these stage lights.

I’m nervous. I babble a lot when I’m nervous... Sorry. I also instinctively apologize a lot for things that aren’t...can’t ever be... my fault. Things beyond my control.

I wonder what my younger sister Bianca is thinking. My eldest sister Connie is all calm and collected sitting beside my mother. I suppose she should know how to be after spending twenty years in the Army. Some of that spent fighting in the bloodbath they called the Reprisals.  My Mum didn’t think this day could come soon enough. At one point, she didn’t think it would come at all. It took such a long time for me to realize what it was I really wanted out of life. I remember calling Bianca with glee when I finally figured out that it was writing that really floated my boat.. She wasn’t nearly as excited as I was, but I guess that’s to be expected.

I’m kind of a bitch sometimes. I won’t even lie to you, but that woman, Connie Dalton loves the hell out of me. She had to look after me before she enlisted in the army when she was only seventeen to get away from our scumbag father. She came back home three years back, acting as if she’d only been gone a week. I was still her little sister who needed looking after. When she opened her first Bookcase bookstore in Dunkeld she gave me a job there. Told me that if I was going to write books, I’d better read a lot of them. So I could learn what kinds of books I liked to read myself.  I’ve worked at her bookstore since. When I wasn’t at lectures, I mean.  Connie’s my sister, but I’ve worked hard and there was no favoritism involved at all. Connie believed that if she treated me like everyone else I’d appreciate everything more when I got into the real world. Her too. She was partly correct.

My mortarboard tassel keeps swinging across my devastatingly emerald eyes. It takes all of my time keeping them straight.  My hair looks a mess under this cap. It’s graduation,
