Introduction
The history behind meditation is rooted in eastern culture and medicine, and can be traced back thousands of years. While most people associate meditating with the Buddha, some researchers believe that the hunting and gathering societies of ancient humanity practiced forms of meditation around the campfire at night, contributing to the final steps of the evolution of our brains and creating the ultimate difference between ourselves and other species—the powers of focused attention.
No matter where it began, we are positive where it has ended up—passed along through generations and across continents, meditation has been gaining popularity and credibility in western medicine, and for many good reasons!
Thanks to the research being done, which started in the 60s and 70s, that explored the effects and benefits of meditation, it has become dominant in western society. While it is common for people to meditate in groups, one of the best things about
