About this audiobook
Paul Hannon moved to Tucker Springs for his girlfriend, but she’s left him with a house he can’t afford and a pantry full of useless gadgets. All Paul wants is to get back to normal, even if he's not sure what that is anymore. When he wanders into Tucker Pawn for a gift to win her back, he meets El Rozal, pawn shop owner and all-around cynic.
El Rozal doesn’t do relationships, especially not with clueless straight boys still pining for their ex. El may make his living dealing in castoffs, but that doesn't apply to men. Still, when Paul starts clearing out his old life, pawning kitchen equipment he never wanted in the first place, El is drawn to Paul in spite of himself.
Paul and El have nothing in common except a past full of disappointments. There's no reason to believe the two of them could fit, but in El’s line of work, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. When it comes to love, El and Paul may learn that secondhand doesn't mean second best.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Funny & sweet. Appreciated the fact that I got the pop culture references in this one, especially given pop culture and I parted ways a few decades ago.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5WOW. El libro está sensacional, emocional, sexi y muy divertido. El narrador es fantástico.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5NOT ENOUGH ROMANCE FOR A ROMANCE NOVEL!!
Overall this book was pleasant, however more than 75% of the book took place before any actual romance occurred. Most of this story was about the individual characters dealing with separate problems that didn’t have anything to do with their actual relationship.
I feel that this book should’ve been marketed differently due to its actual contents. There is little to no romance in the entire thing. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The near innocence of coming out and falling in love with a real prince. If only in real life it was so easy. A nice feel-good story thats worth the listen, indeed.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was such a cute story! I love these authors and this book just reinforces why..
Even though it's book two of the series, this one could easily be read as a stand alone. But I'll admit after reading this one, I definitely want to read the first one again.
Paul is an extremely sweet, slighty (okay, maybe more than slightly) clueless guy, who goes through life seemingly always chasing what is just out of reach. Al, come across as a tough guy, but has a very soft heart that he tries to hide. Paul also is straight...or so he thinks.
The story is a lovely build-up of their relationship and some of the hurdles they need to jump to find happiness. And I would love to read more about them in the future. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Paul is a young man who has been dumped by his girlfriend Stacey for a man with better prospects. Paul, sadly, is still hung up on her. El--Emmanuel Rozal--runs the pawn shop he inherited from his granddad and avoids all relationships because he sees all the failed relationships (but not the successful ones) all around him. El, by the way, is gay and out, and however mixed up his family is in other ways, it's just not an issue for them.
One day, spurred on by the need to do some outside maintenance on the rundown rented house Stacey picked and then left him with, Paul walks into El's shop.
You know where this is going, and overall, it's a nicely done light romance novel. There's enough explicit sex that it will not be to everyone's taste because of that, but on the other hand, there's also a very cute little dog involved, and Paul works at a veterinary clinic. (Yes, for some of us, these are pluses.)
I do have one significant reservation about the book, though. Women romance readers are well acquainted with the phenomenon where, despite the required feminine pen name on the cover, it's perfectly clear that the author is a man because what goes on inside the female lead's head is just not what ever happened inside the mind of any woman ever. In these cases, a little digging always turns up the fact that the writer's real gender is male. It may be a fine story in every other way, but no woman ever looked at her reflection in a mirror and was 100% pleased--and that's just one simple, obvious example.
Second Hand has two female authors, and I suspect med will have much the same complaint about what goes on inside Paul's head. It seems too much like what goes on inside the head of a particularly unconfident, just barely adult young woman. I might be wrong; after all, I've never actually been inside a man's head. But I am skeptical of Paul.
Still, recommended as light reading if you enjoy romances.
I received a free electronic galley of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Starts off slow but builds to a nice satisfying ending. 3.75 stars.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well.. It's 12:30 am and I just finished reading this straight through. Overall, it is a lighter book than the third one, but no less intense. What I like about this series is that our guys all have issues, and the problems are not solved instantly.
I really liked the hoarding mother storyline, it was different and it explained so much about El.
There were some flighty, stereotypic secondary characters, but they just added spice. I read the 3rd book first, then the first, and now the second book; it did not bother me in the least. I have a feeling this book is going into my favorite pile. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fantastic book--I loved it so much I couldn't put it down and I read it in one sitting. Hence the five stars.
I even got a bit teary-eyed at the scene with Paul and his mom. :) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very enjoyable read with two great MCs. Paul is shy, not very confident and supposedly straight, while El is out, confident and cool. The story how they meet, fall in love and come together is simple, very well told and very entertaining. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Paul's Mom - just great. It also had some humor and so it was all around a great read for me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very sweet book. The build up went on a lttle too long for me but both El & Paul were adorable.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Paul and El are an unlikely couple by their own admission but somehow love doesn't seem to care. I love the sprinkles of humor throughout the story. My husband kept asking me what was so funny as I'd laugh out loud. It is a great story of getting together and letting the relationship build.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it! Steaming hot chemistry, fantastic sex scenes, humour, great friends and relatives, a little angst perfectly balanced by the sweet, and Paul's mother who is the most amazing mother of all!
