About this audiobook

An unprepared witch. A mysterious human. And a quest that will test them both …

Hazel always knew she was one of the weakest witches of her generation. For a moment there, she even cared about that status.

Not anymore. She’s determined to live her life as a normal human—with exception for the occasional ghost hunting. What can she do if the damn spirits won’t leave her alone?

But when she finally settles into a new routine, Hazel receives a message that changes everything: the Lightgrove Coven, one of the most powerful witch covens in the world, grants her a rare chance to join them, but only if she passes a dangerous test on Friday the Thirteenth.

At first, Hazel wants to disregard the message. But who is she kidding? This is an opportunity she can’t say no to.

Everything is going unexpectedly fine until a human steps in Hazel's way. Sean is mysterious, hot, and inexplicably alluring. Despite Hazel’s best attempts to ignore him, she can’t. And when Sean’s fate entwines with Hazel’s task, it puts everything at risk—not just her test, but also their own lives.

I really enjoyed the story, it's a shame the narration took away from it so much. I would give the story 5⭐️ but the narration only 1. She's very stilted in her reading and makes it frustrating to listen to.

This was really quite an enjoyable book.
I generally enjoy the stories most that include the character discovering the supernatural world or coming into magic for which they were unaware magic was real or they get bitten by a supernatural being. None of this happens in this book, the main character lives in a supernatural society and she does have some magic but only a little. That's OK, she compensates by being awesome.

Too often in YA stories with the lead character being female, they always make her really powerful but really lacking confidence, makes very many stupid mistakes and relies on big beefy guys to save her. Not so in this book and I'm grateful for that, I'm a hit who likes strong, intelligent women and this girl is all that, she's very intelligent, excels at learning, physically fit and very independent. She's the one who protects others. She is a really likeable character as are most of the characters. It's not a story that focuses on the romance, just has a little on the side and thankfully no sex, just a little kissing. I'm so sick of erotic novels disguised as YA fantasy with the graphic scenes being about 90% of the book. This is not that.

Now onto the story, it's pretty unique and interesting enough that i was never bored. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Backed by a really great female narrator who seamlessly creates individual personalities and really adds to story in a really positive way. Good narrators are all too uncommon. I really recommend this narrator and this book series.
