About this audiobook

From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.

Violet Knight fell for Cameron at the wrong time. And when he left, she thought her life was over. But then, after the worst happened, she truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, and she’s not offering one. Though given that their families have been forced together after losing one of their own, she knows there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.

Cameron Connolly never wanted to hurt Violet, but there were reasons he had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe him if he told her what they were. He not only left her, he also left his foster brothers. Honestly, Cam didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run his father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to his brothers, he knows he’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps he’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection they both thought long forgotten in the process. Because he wanted her then, but now he knows he needs her. He just hope she needs me.

Heavy topics, and an emotional roller coaster, but very good.

This book does a great job of setting up the rest of the series. As the series title states, this is a story about rebuilding fractured connections. It’s a story about the importance of family & friendship and the challenges those relationships can face. It did that well. I really liked watching the rebuilding and re-evolving relationship between the 4 brothers and their struggle to save their deceased adoptive father’s bar and legacy. Yes, the sensitive topic of a suicide having just occurred before the beginning of the story has to be confronted. However, I liked the way that Carrie Ann Ryan chose to focus on the after effects of the suicide for the people left behind. The pain, confusion, anger, survivors guilt, grief & loss of their friend. I also liked the relationship between the three friends as they leaned on each other to get through it. I liked the fact that part of the story was about learning to ask for help. I liked the way a chronic health issue was dealt with as just part of life, while in the midst of dealing with everything else and the developing relationship. Because life with a chronic illness can be hard, but we should and can still live life to the fullest. I liked that it gives hope that despite our challenges, we can still reach for and have our own HEA. I liked that instead of just ooohing & awwwing over the beauty of Colorado & it’s mountains, concern for the environment was introduced with Violet being an Environmental Chemist. However, despite liking all of the above I found the writing to be way too repetitive, which became frustrating and caused parts of the story to drag. All while I was trying unsuccessfully to lose myself in the story. Also the relationship between Violet and Cameron seemed way too easy, like it was just tossed in there as something else to be resolved. I had really been looking forward to learning more about Mace’s Sisters (Mace & Adrianne from Montgomery Ink’s Colorado Springs series) but I was disappointed, because I didn’t really like Violet as a character, despite being able to relate to what she was going through.

Really enjoyed the first in this series…Ryan deals delicately with tough topics. This story gives hope for a HEA for those who’ve lived an unconventional life and dealt with serious issues. Narration was perfect! I highly recommend!
