About this audiobook

A planet at war. Two alphas forced into a political marriage. Attraction that defies all reason and logic… Or does it?

The Kingdom of Pelugia and the Republic of Kadar have been at war for decades. Peace isn’t popular, but the planet can’t survive without it.

Forced to marry an enemy prince for the sake of peace, Senator Royce Cleghorn doesn’t like his husband, his alpha scent, or his damned pretty blue eyes. More than anything, Royce hates what Haydn makes him become: a primitive alpha cliché who’ll do anything to mark his territory, even if that territory is his alpha husband. Royce likes omegas; he isn’t into alphas, no matter how pretty their eyes are. It’s just a weird territorial instinct. It has to be.

Prince Haydn has always tried to be the perfect alpha his father wants him to be. He’s the heir to the throne. He’s a war general. He isn’t supposed to bare his throat to an enemy alpha—and it isn’t supposed to feel so good. Everyone knows a marriage between two alphas is a recipe for disaster. He isn’t supposed to crave his husband—their marriage is just a political arrangement, nothing more.

But when disaster strikes and loyalties are tested, which bond will be the strongest: their marriage, or their allegiances?

This book is set in an omegaverse world similar to contemporary Earth, and it contains mating cycles, two men obsessed with each other, and a happily ever after. While mpreg exists in this world, it's only mentioned and doesn't appear on-page.

    Audiobook Review by Mel
Narrator Devlin Wylde slackroped this performance by swinging himself left and right over the line of acceptable and unacceptable narration. First of all, dude, turn down the bass and the treble up. My eardrums couldn’t handle it. I ended up listening without any earbuds, but the whole neighborhood heard the alphas sucking each other off. My bad luck continued as I listened at the uncomfortable speed between 1.2 and 1.5, never finding the sweet spot. Compounded by the Scribd app losing the play speed setting each time I stopped and commenced listening. I ending up being lulled into a horny sleepy stupor. The narrator does have a knack for reading the erotic bits, and he also has a few differential voices up his sleeve. I was able to follow the dialogues fairly well, but the cadence of the sentence structures needs a bit more practice. For example, the last paragraph in the book and “The End” was the weirdest and most memorable part.

I fell in love with the authors earlier two audiobooks this year, hence my excitement to have found this nugget off could have been so much better, if only… The plot is fairly predictable, but I kept on listening due to an expectation of a jack in the box. I liked this omegaverse as it has male and female lupine characters. There is a symbolic gesture between alphas mating with alphas being by it being biologically wrong. There is only talk about MPREG, with no MPREGS appearing in this book. The cycles of going into heat and rut were interesting, but it was not the main focus. I was focused on the political maneuvering. I liked the protagonists, they were both very likable and I will continue the series because of the paranormal sci-fi aspect. This story does not play out on earth. It’s on a planet with more than two moons. This intrigued me more, as it sounds unique and I expect a whole new universe will unfold in the rest of the series to come.

I did have a few laugh-out-loud moments, so overall, it wasn’t only my neighbors who were entertained. Therefore giving it 4 stars or roses.

    I reluctantly recommend this audiobook.

    Happy Listening

My second non contemporary book by Alessandra Hazard. I loved this omegaverse building with the usual MCs obsession and pull toward each other being bigger than life. I can't get enough of the author MCs trademark clinginess :D I also enjoyed a lot the well developed twists using genetic; The guys happiness when discovering that they were bonded was moving; Royce's assurances supporting whatever choice Haydn did about his designation; The positive note about Devin's situation. The bass issue in the narration is true but I actually enjoyed it. In headphones it makes the listening more interesting and different from the usual.

I decided to give this book another chance.. The narrator had a very deep voice for me and I couldn’t listen with headphones so speaker was my best bet (had a headache by the end). The story was um repetitive the same things being said kept repeating itself and it got old and very annoyed by it all in all ended up being an okay book

Wow I devoured this book. Really unexpected. This is a surprisingly good balance between smut and plot, as they're actually intertwined. Not sure how much of that will carry forward to the next book, but it works for this one.

The plot is a bit predictable, the reader knows exactly what is happening from the start. There isn't any surprise when it's "revealed", but by that point it felt like Hazzard wanted the reader to know, the reveal wasn't grandiose as if it should be a surprise.

I'm also surprised at the cover. It looks like a generic pack omegaverse, but it's more like a fantasy political book with some background modern technology.
