About this audiobook
How about being squished between two huge, naked dudes with their meaty schlongs hanging out and everything?
It's all a matter of opinion, but Carter's day is going pretty badly. He's an engineer captured by bug aliens, now depending on his large, muscled, naked cage mates for food and warmth. They seem sentient, so that's good. But they're also handsy. Which is . . . complicated.
The military isn't looking for him. Slaves taken by the bug race never come back. Yet, Carter is very much alive, and if he wants to stay that way, he'll need to trust Pykh and Siel, two affectionate aliens with claws, teeth, and size.
Contains mature themes.

This book is so good that having read it over a year ago, I continue to come back to see if the author had written anything new every couple weeks. Joel Leslie is amazing as always. He is the reason I'm incapable of listening to AI narration. He took listening to a book to a whole new level. And the story? Immersive and captivating - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Here’s the thing…
I wanted to listen to this audiobook because I thought I would cringe and laugh at it. I genuinely thought, because I *used* to not like Joel Leslie as a narrator, and because I never liked sci-fi alien romances, that I would not enjoy this book.
This is the part where the audience would laugh in my face for being an absolute fool.
Not only did Joel OUTDO himself with this whole series of books, but the books themselves were amazing! Sure, they aren’t perfect and the pacing was entirely off in the first book, and then struggled a bit in the third book, but DAMN!
I’ll start with Joel Leslie as the narrator first because this series of books was the turning point for me and my relationship with him as a narrator:
If you are as intimately familiar with gay romance audiobooks as I am, then Joel Leslie is hard to avoid. He has covered everything from the most SFW books to some hardcore kinky and “weird” stuff. And his style of narration is… something to get used to. He does not have a stereotypical “smooth” ASMR voice.
Oh no. This man has a voice I used to compare to nails on chalkboard.
Until it just… clicked. I understood, finally, why I felt that way.
That is because I am- or rather, was- used to narrators being a bit emotionless, reading with just a bit more gusto than they would a dissertation paper.
That habit made it hard to listen to Joel, who always narrates with a deeper emotional understanding of the material and the characters and story within. When he suddenly sounds pained, it is likely because he knows the context which may cause the character to feel pained.
And if he does sound off in any of the other books he narrated, I would bet good money that it isn’t his fault, but the fault of the material not giving him enough to work with.
Which brings me smoothly to actually reviewing the books. Because this whole series of books is. So. Good.
The characters are interesting and feel real. You can truly understand them and their points of view. They act like people who, given the circumstances and setting, would behave the way they do. They don’t become caricatures as the series goes on, and instead begin to evolve into more complex beings.
The world the story is set in feels alive. It isn’t the most unique world, but it is one the author put effort into crafting. The alien races, while nothing that has never been thought of in the past, feel like aliens without being over the top or just unpleasant and weird. Instead, they have a culture, a language, a commonality that is consistent and believable.
The drama is not forced or blown out of proportion. It is, however, always present. An undercurrent in even the most calm moments that doesn’t feel unwelcome or like it overstays its welcome. It is what it is meant to be: the driving force of the story, the sturdy foundation that won’t allow it all to collapse. It is not the most carefully constructed or best executed drama and angst and tension I have ever experienced, but it is exactly what it is meant to be: satisfying.
Now…
This series is not perfect, of course. The pacing is one point I mentioned, but I also have to address how the amount of lore that happens to be dumped on you at times can also be overwhelming. Sometimes, the books over-explains some aspects, while under-explaining others.
Needless to say, if you don’t like omegaverse or think mpreg is gross, then just don’t bother with this series.
So… overall, I am excited for the official release of the fourth book! For those of you who end up craving more of this content, look up Eileen Glass on Patreon. With $1 per month, you get to read the first 50-something chapters of the fourth book! Not the finished product, but the WIP that may end up being even more enjoyable.
Thank you both Eileen and Joel for creating a wonderful experience!4 people found this helpful
