About this audiobook

The bestselling author of the The Swap takes you “on a wild psychological ride with this addictive thriller” (Palm Beach Daily News) about what happens when a seemingly perfect family is pushed to the edge.

Thomas and Viv Adler are the envy of their neighbors: attractive, successful, with well-mannered children and a beautifully restored home.

Until one morning, when they wake up to find their porch has been pelted with eggs. It’s a prank, Thomas insists; the work of a few out-of-control kids. But when a smoke bomb is tossed on their front lawn, and their car’s tires are punctured, the family begins to worry.

Surveillance cameras show nothing but grainy images of shadowy figures in hoodies. And the police dismiss the attacks, insisting they’re just the work of bored teenagers. Unable to identify the perpetrators, the Adlers are helpless as the assaults escalate into violence, and worse. And each new violation brings with it a growing fear. Because everyone in the Adler family is keeping a secret—not just from the outside world, but from each other. And secrets can be very dangerous….

“Unsettling and darkly sublime, Robyn Harding deftly explores twisted family dynamics and devastating secrets in suburbia in this stunning novel that will shock readers by the final page” (Christina McDonald, USA TODAY bestselling author of The Night Olivia Fell).

The family and their plight elicited no sympathy from me. Not one of them had the wherewithal to function in any intelligent manner. The ending? Cheap setup for a sequel novel. Would make a good comic book, I guess.

It was pretty mediocre. Pretty. Land. I finished it because I hate not knowing the end. Overall pretty boring. Should not be in a suspense or thriller category. Don't recommend.

That's an idiotic book! Unlikeable characters doing irrational, dumb things and really silly intrigues.

It’s okay. Very easy read but not very satisfying ending. It feels as if it’s set up for a sequel.

I would have given a 5 star but it just ends without actually telling you who the culprit was or the other one was. Makes no sense to leave it this way totally ruined the book for me.

I’d been looking forward to reading The Perfect Family since it was launched to roaring reviews. I’m disappointed to say, it didn’t live up to the initial hype, but I’d already bought it, so there was that.

Meet the Adler family, Thomas, a real estate agent; his wife Viv, an interior designer; their twenty-year-old son, Eli; and seventeen-year-old daughter, Tarryn.
Thomas and Viv have built the image of a perfect family; their cars, home, and their children all portray success and perfection. But their perfect image is about to come crashing down.

One morning, they wake up to find their house has been egged. Thomas insists it’s just teenagers. But then the attacks keep escalating: ? at their front door, Thomas’s car tyres are slashed, and someone sets fire to their hedges. The police and neighbours seem unwilling to help and only bring up one major question. Why would someone target the Adlers?

It turns out, the Adlers aren’t so perfect after all. Each family member has a secret dark enough to make them a target for attacks.
Written in multiple POVs from each family member, the story slowly exposes each of their secrets. Each one believes their secret cannot be the reason for the attacks. They are quick to point the finger at one another.

As the story unfolds, bits of information are revealed about each of them.

I enjoyed the slow escalation of the attacks.
I also liked how none of the characters was likeable, but none were outright villains either. The writing also flows easily, which should have made The Perfect Family a quick read.

What I did not like was how anticlimactic everything turned out to be. The secrets were blasé in my opinion. The characters were also stereotypical and had no layers.
The Perfect Family is a suspenseful read, with an interesting premise, and a flat finish.

The reading was rather lackluster. The family is very unlikeable. The ending clears up almost nothing and the situations are not realistic.

The writing was fine but the characters were boring. The plot was too convenient and bland. The last line of the book was frustrating and rather dumb. It invalidates the whole story. Lines like that can work and have but not in this.
I kept reading till the end because I kept hoping for, something that I did not get.
