About this audiobook

Trying to escape her overbearing mother, vintage kitchenware enthusiast and soon-to-be columnist Jaymie Leighton retreats to her family's cottage on Heartbreak Island. While there she hopes to write an article about the Ice House restaurant, owned by good friends and neighbors, siblings Ruby and Garnet Redmond. Once an actual icehouse, the restaurant is charmingly decorated with antique tools of the trade, including a collection of ice picks.

One night, while working on her article, Jaymie overhears an argument and, ever the sleuth, sets out to explore. But when she stumbles upon a dead body her blood runs cold. It's Urban Dobrinskie, whose feud with the Redmonds is no secret, and he's got an ice pick through his heart. Now Jaymie's got to sharpen her sleuthing skills to chip away at the mystery and prove her neighbors' innocence-before someone else gets picked off . . .

The thing about this mystery is that I loathed the main character. No matter how good the mystery--and it was good--it didn't matter because I dreaded opening the book and living in the main character's point of view.

Jaymie is trying to get the family cabin repaired in time for a get together but plumbing problems aren't the only issues that keep popping up in her backyard on Heartbreak Island. Her boyfriend's family are in town and are causing disruptions with Jaymie's family but the murder on the island seems to be a bigger issue.Trying to keep everyone calm while writing her first vintage cookbook newspaper column keeps not just Jaymie but the reader guessing unil the end.recipes and fun galore.

Jammie is less likable in every installment and her love interest is just an ass. Have some pride girl. There is a hot detective right under your nose who seems to be more of a man, why not go for him?
The mystery was decent, but in no way rocked my world and moved too slowly for my liking. It seemed like there was a lot of filler to make the book full length.
I liked the first book we'll enough that I am not throwing in the towel quite yet. I am hoping for better next time around.

This series was on my 3 strikes list, and this was the third book. The good news is that the plot was much better that the first two books; far more subtly crafted and the killer wasn't jumping-up-and-down obvious. A mystery always gets props when I don't guess the killer before the protagonist does. But otherwise, meh. I only have lukewarm feelings for the MC, I pretty much dislike her love interest, Daniel, and the love intrigue, the Detective Zack Christian is intriguing and I'd love to read more about him, but the author is so lackadaisical about creating any tension between him and Jaymie that I can't generate any excitement about it. It feels like her editor is forcing her to add Christian against her wishes, so she's doing the bare minimum. Either that or she's going to string this out forEVER. Who wants to wait that long? I don't know if I'll pick up the next book or not; at this point, if my bookshelves become overwhelmed (again!) and I need to make space, I'm going to have a hard time resisting the urge to cull this series. I'll definitely not pre-order the fourth book; I'll wait to see what others think before shelling out for it.

I love this series more with every installment...hope there is a new one soon!!! Jaymie's love life is nearly getting to be as complicated as the murders she finds herself solving in each book. After meeting Daniel's mother in this book, as well as finding out Daniel has not been sharing major details of his life with her, I'm almost hoping she chooses not to stay with him after the six months they discussed. Solving this murder was again, full of twists and turns. Although the actual murder was in fact one of my first suspects, the story had me second guessing myself several times before confirming the truth. Lots of interpersonal relationships, plus you really get a good feel for the area in Michigan where the stories take place.

This book was my first read by this author. It was a well-written cozy mystery that kept me guessing who the murderer was until the end. It is the third book in the Vintage Kitchen series. I would recommend this book for people who want a cozy mystery with a bit more meat, and I am looking forward to reading the first two in the series.

This is the third installment of Hamilton's Vintage Kitchen mysteries and while there was a little less vintage, the mystery part still delivered. It took me awhile to get into the story, Jaymie and her possible boyfriend Daniel spend a good portion of the time discussing the sewage issues at Rose Cottage and an impending meal when their parents finally meet. Zack Christian continues to be a good looking foil for Jaymie's sleuthing exploits and I really like the small town characters and atmosphere Hamilton has created here, near the border of Canada.

Freezer I'll Shoot is the first book that I have read by Hamilton, and I really enjoyed it. Hamilton does a great job with her world building creating both a small community of colorful characters on Heartbreak Island and also some great characters on the mainland. One reason I love reading cozies is the settings and communities that you would like to visit, and Heartbreak Island despite the murder seems like a great place. Hamilton sets up a good mystery with Urban having a major scuffle in front of the main character and a host of suspects, and having Jaymie find the body in her own backyard gives her the incentive to solve this mystery. Full of many twists and turns Freezer I'll Shoot provides the reader with a compelling mystery that will keep them guessing. Hamilton also does a great job with her character development really making the reader invest in these characters like Jaymie, Sammy, Ruby, Daniel, and Zach. The book also has the hint of a romantic triangle which leads to some humorous family events that only add to the story. Overall Freezer I'll Shoot was a great read that I would most definitely recommend to any reader who enjoys a fun read, an enjoyable setting, compelling characters, and learning about vintage recipes and tools. I look forward to reading another book in Hamilton's Jaymie series.Received a copy of Freezer I'll Shoot from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Reviewed by Kimfor Read Your Writes Book ReviewsWhile Freezer I’ll Shoot is the third book in the Vintage Kitchen Mysteries Series, it is easily a stand alone. I’ve wanted to read a book by Victoria Hamilton for a while now and I had no problem getting into this story.Jaymie Leighton is a thirty-two-year-old single lady. She lives in her childhood home in Queensville, Michigan. She’s slowly getting over her relationship with her cheating ex and is trying to take things slow with her new boyfriend, Daniel Collins, a multi-millionaire software computer mogul. Jaymie herself has several little odd jobs and is trying to run her upstart picnic basket rental company, a small blog on cooking and write a bi-weekly article called Vintage Eats for her local newspaper. When Jaymie is around, it seems that murder follows. In this installment of the Vintage Kitchen Mystery Series, Jaymie finds the body of Urban Dobrinskie between her and her neighbor’s backyard on Heartbreak Island. Urban Dobrinskie is a man who isn’t very well liked, to say the least. He’s abusive to his wife and teenage son and is pretty much just flat out mean to people. As the list of suspects grows, so does the gossip on the small island of Heartbreak Island and its neighboring small town Queensville. Leave it to Jaymie and her adorable yet protective three legged Yorkie-Poo, Hoppy, to find out who the killer is. I loved this story because it kept me guessing as to who the killer was. Just when I had an idea, someone else came to mind. In this lovely tale of murder, greed, and secrets; you have to figure out just who you can and can not trust. In her quest to find out answers, Jaymie inadvertently puts her life and that of Hoppy’s at risk. But it’s up to sexy Detective Zack Christian to rescue her and save the day. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Source: NetGalley

4 STARSThis is the third book of A Vintage Kitchen Mystery but the first one I have read. I think it can stand alone but might be better if you have read the first two books, The characters are well developed and I like them. But I do feel I might have missed a little of their working together. The plot is that Jaymie is at her family's cottage on Heartbreak Island getting the septic tank and field taken care of. While she is up late at night working on a project she needs to go use her neighbors restroom and while going finds a dead body. Her third one in the past few months. In Jaymie's personal life her parents are staying at her house that she shares with her older sister. Her mom is always telling her what to do. Her mom is fighting with Daniel her boyfriend's mom. Daniel is rich and owns his own business. The detective that lives on the island is the one who she was questioned in the last two murders is Zach. The suspense is good and keeps you guessing till the end about who the murder is and why. Their are a lot of suspects. This story has good character relationships. I am not saying this right. The characters are going about their lives while Jaymie is also trying to figure out who the guilty party is. She is always trying to get more information out of Zach.I would love to go back and read the first two novels in the Vintage Kitchen Mystery series. The part of the story I was disappointed on was the romance between her and Daniel or even between her and Zach. Just neither seemed to really work. Maybe by not reading the first two books I have missed something. Needed more conversation or plans to show where they were going. This is a clean read.I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review by Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Berkley, NAL / Signet Romance, DAW.Nov. 5 2013 Pub.
