YOU’RE SO embarrassing!

I hope we don’t embarrass Katie,’ Lyn said as her husband Jim drove down another pretty country lane.

‘We won’t.’

Their daughter had lived in the US for four years with her husband Chuck, a real-estate broker. Now, the couple had decided to move back to the UK.

Today, Lyn and Jim were going to see her for the first time since she’d arrived a few days before. She and Chuck had already bought a new home in the next county. Jim and Lyn had offered to help them move in, and Chuck’s parents, Ross and Cerise, had flown over too.

‘Do you remember when Cerise and Ross first came round to our place?’ Jim asked, glancing at Lyn.

‘They didn’t look like they belonged, did they?’ she replied, thinking back…

They’d first met the American couple just a few weeks before Katie’s wedding, six years ago. Cerise, draped in gold jewellery, and Ross, in a tailored suit, had looked like visiting royalty rather than laid-back Californians.
