About this audiobook
A savage murder rocks a quiet Boston suburb, revealing the dark secrets at the center of a group of friends in this clever, propulsive debut from new master of suspense, Terri Parlato …
Snow falls softly outside Molly Bradley’s home on a frigid January night. Inside, half a dozen close friends are gathered to celebrate the fortieth birthday of Molly’s psychologist husband, Jay. Candlelight gleams against dark wood, wine
flows, and the house rings with laughter. Everybody loves Jay, Molly most of all.
Yet next morning, Molly discovers Jay dead on the floor of his office, his throat brutally slashed.
After decades working with the Boston PD, Detective Rita Myers has grown accustomed to the banality of evil—the murders that make no sense beyond bad luck or a tragic brush with the worst of humanity. But Jay Bradley’s murder isn’t
random, or a mere crime of opportunity. Rita is convinced that someone in the couple’s small circle killed him. Someone who was celebrating with them that night.
Devastated, Molly tries to make sense of her husband’s death. Jay was her rock, the only person who really understood the nightmare she lived through long ago.
He knew the horrors she’s kept hidden even from her friends. But shocking revelations are making her question if Jay was all he seemed to be—and whether someone else knows her past too. And until Molly figures out who she can really
trust, she won’t be able to stop herself becoming the next target …

A slow burn at the beginning, then after the first twist, the suspense builds. It remains well-paced with clues and police interviews.
Lots of suspects for the whodunnit lover
Loved the differences in the voice actors’ tones
Practical and empathetic detective (personally hoping for a sequel)
Might be a good hybrid read since there are several characters

Some very dark content including crimes against children - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Everyone Loves JayTerri Parlato’s debut novel builds a compelling murder mystery shrouded by dark memories. On a cold January night, after his birthday party, Jay Bradley is murdered. The only clue is the disturbed papers relating to the book he is writing about abnormal psychology and the criminal mind. Molly Bradley is wrecked after learning her husband was murdered while she was sleeping. Boston PD, Detective Rita Myers is assigned the case, and begins investigating all of Jay’s family and friends. As clues turn up, Molly finds she might not have known her husband as well as she thought. Detective Myers uncovers a deadly secret that Molly might not want the answer to.Molly Bradley is in shock, deeply morning the loss of her husband. Everyone loved him, and Molly cannot think of anyone who wanted her husband dead. She spends quite a bit of her time adjusting to her new reality, and trying to figure out how to move on. Even the day-to-day activities, like making coffee, remind her of Jay. Terri Parlato slowly builds her story to include snippets of Molly’s alarming past, and the role Jay played.Boston PD, Detective Rita Myers has solved a lot of murders in her time, but they are never easy. Detective Myers is a practical woman, who draws the scenes of her investigation to find clues. She is methodical with her work, as she investigates a murder without solid suspects. Jay Bradley has many secrets, and one that lead to his murder. The two perspectives of Molly and Detective Myers show the differences between the struggle of tragically losing a loved one, and bringing justice to the one who has died. While Molly searches for answers deep in her own troubles, Detective Myers gives the reader an outside perspective. Terri Parlato muses a lot on phycology, particularly the links between trauma and behavior. Both Molly and Detective Myers have brushed off therapy despite their difficult experiences. The difference being that Molly seeks to hide from the world, while Detective Myers frequently analyzes herself. With plenty of surprising twists, Terri Parlato slowly weaves a thrilling mystery filled with paranoia, and distrust.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This took a while to get into. The middle was good; I was very interested in knowing what exactly was going on. But the ending wasn't satisfying for me. The reveal wasn't spectacular and the ending was predictable. I hate to say it but this book was nothing special.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for an ARC. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5"SOMETIMES I WANT TO CAPTURE HAPPY A MOMENT TO KEEP FOREVER.""Not like a picture or a video, but a feeling. A feeling that I want to relive for the rest of my life. (Why is it that nightmares insist on the same treatment?) I shudder and move away from the dark hallway in the the light of the living room, where my husband stands in front of the blazing fireplace while he relates a funny story to our friends. They've gathered for his birthday celebration and laugh with honest mirth. Everyone loves Jay. No one more than me."Thus starts All The Dark Places by Terri Parlatto. By the next morning, Jay will be dead. Murdered in his office. Who would do such a thing to the man that everyone loves and respects. Jay is a psychologist. Molly is devasted to say the least. Rita is a detective with the Boston P.D. and is the lead detective on the case. It is up to her to interview and determine who if anyone of the group of friends of Jay and Molly is to the murderer. It is unearthed that Molly has a dark past. It comes out in bits and pieces during the investigation. Someone starts calling Molly leaving ominous messages for her about her past and that the person knows who she is and will be coming after her. Molly gets herself a service dog to protect her. All of her friends are interviewed but still no one knows who murdered her husband.Another body is unearthed, literally on the mountain property and is owned by Jay and Molly. Now Jay becomes a suspect. Why would he murder this woman? Rita and her partner Chase Fuller must figure this out. Soon the FBI is brought in to assist with the case. This is a police procedural, that is deeply character driven, each alternating chapter is told in Molly's Rita's viewpoint respectively. Each chapter drives the story to it's conclusion. I love a good murder mystery and this one is very good. The plot is addictive, and it is written in such a way that keeps the reader moving through the book. Even though there are a lot of characters, that does not detract from the story. The storyline flows right along. I kind of knew or thought I knew who the murderer was but was surprised to find I was wrong.I give this book 5 stars.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Molly Brown’s husband Jay is savagely murdered in his home office after his 40th birthday celebration. Everyone loved him, so why would someone kill him. Detective Rita Myers is the investigator on this case and think there’s something off with Molly. There is, she is hiding a secret and when exposed Molly’s life is turned upside down. This is a fascinating debut novel with a lot of twists that keeps one guessing. The chapters are short and alternation between Rita’s and Molly’s point of views. Easy enough to follow. The characters are well developed, the plot was faced paced and the ending, didn’t see that coming!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. This opens with Jay's 40th birthday parry, which he celebrates with his wife Molly and three couples who are friends of theirs. Jay is murdered in the night and the novel is told from the perspectives of Molly (who turns out to have a secret tragedy in her past) and detective Rita. I found this a quick and reasonably compelling read, although I wish the balance had been more Rita and less Molly.I struggled a little to keep the other three couples straight in my own mind and kept forgetting who was married to whom. The ending was quite exciting, although I don't really understand how the murderer kept disappearing off to do his murderous deeds without being missed...
