About this audiobook

Duty meets desire . . . Mercy O'Malley hates killing people. So when she's assigned to take out Vampire-Demon Logan Kyllwood, she lures him to a seedy bar in Scotland, then decides to kidnap him instead. How can she cold-bloodedly end all that heat, those green eyes, that ripped body? Unfortunately for Mercy, attempted murder and kidnapping are just foreplay for the Kyllwood brothers. Logan may be the youngest of the bunch, but death and violence are already a way of life. Now he's ready to complete a painful, terrifying ritual to become one of the Seven, dedicated to protecting this world from the most dangerous evil it's ever known. But first he has to deal with a blackmailing Fey, a ransom demand and his own pounding need for the last female he ever should have fallen for . . .

Pretty good read. This is my first time reading anything in this series and I definitely enjoyed the fantasy elements. The chemistry is pretty good and of course the romance is steamy. BUT, like much writing in this genre, it suffers from "puddle of goo" syndrome with regards to the female lead. What do I mean? Well, when we meet Mercy she's tough, smart, independent, and thoughtful. She has a plan, albeit a hastily prepared one, but she's trying to do what's right despite the odds. Then, our male protag sweeps in and pretty quickly turns her into a useless puddle of sexy goo. I appreciate that Mercy holds out a bit longer than other female characters, but I'm so tired of reading romance where the women are just so quick to fully turn into a quivering damsel in distress. Clutching big male chests with tears in their eyes, lips quivering, they become utterly useless in the presence of men so apparently omnipotently strong and commanding (i.e. patronizing jerks if not worse). It teaches me, as a woman, that if I meet the right (abusive) man (kidnapper) maybe I too can have no thoughts in my head and utterly lose my ability to think, communicate clearly, and self-advocate. What a joy!
Anyway, I realize this is part and parcel with the genre, and I accept much of that. Don't let this review stop you from reading it, it's been a good distraction during my workouts. One more gripe though, I'm on my knees begging authors to stop having men refer to women simply as "females"; "the female tempted him", "the female was insane" etc. It's gross and makes me feel like all the men are incels or view the female characters as different species. Okay, rant over. Read it I guess!

I've received a ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I normally never read fantasy romance novels but this took me on a whirlwind adventure! The writing, plot, and characters were refreshing! I love the cat and mouse cat between Mercy and Logan, and their chemistry is sizzling hot!

    Never gets old

I adore this series, and it just continues to get better and better. Tons of paranormal action, political intrigue, mystical secrets, and of course romance. Trying to save the world just never send to end. I love the sense of family and close friendship/brotherhood in these books!

Demon’s Mercy by Rebecca ZanettiDark Protectors #9What fun to see what is happening with some of my favorite characters! In this book vampir-demon-hybrid Logan Kyllwood meets his mate and what a time they have as Mercy O’Malley tries to convince Logan and the rest of the protectors that she is right and they are wrong. What is the issue? Oh...just the world as we know it and how to keep it from spinning away into nothing or perhaps if it stays being overtaken by evil that nobody wants to have in charge. There is chemistry between the two and neither trusts the other – with good reason – and there is intrigue and some people that are not on the same page and others that are sure their page is the only one everyone should be on. This was a fun, action-packed, steamy story with two strong characters that found their way to one another AND it left me wanting to find out what will happen in book ten...I can hardly wait! Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books – Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.4-5 Stars
