Very good book. The back cover copy got some things a bit wrong. At the beginning of the book, Boone had no dogs and acquired one during the story. I loved the way he did get the dog and how much he came to mean to the whole family. Tara does everything she can to avoid even talking to Boone much less ask him for help. That being said, I really enjoyed the book. Tara is living her dream raising her chickens in Parable. She has friends and a community she loves. She's not real fond of her neighbor Boone. They hit it off wrong when she moved in and he said something about a citified wannabe farmer and she considered him a redneck sheriff too lazy to fix up his double wide. At the beginning of this story Tara has had a call from her ex-husband asking her to care for his twelve year old daughters because they keep running off the nannies. She says yes because she has missed them so much. I liked Boone from the beginning but he did need a bit of an attitude adjustment. When his wife died he had been so devastated that he sent his sons to live with his sister until he could get himself together. That short period has stretched to several years and circumstances have led to them having to come back home to him. Now he has to learn to be a father all over again. The longer the boys had stayed away the less confidence he had in his abilities. With both Boone and Tara pulling parent duty they find themselves together more often and realize that those sparks weren't dislike, but passion. I really enjoyed seeing both of them open their hearts to the possibilities of a future together. I also enjoyed seeing more of the people of Parable. Opal still seems to be the glue that holds the town together. Hutch and Slade are great at keeping Boone straight and I loved the way that Kendra and Joslyn kept pushing Tara toward Boone. I also liked seeing the way that the town pulled together when people needed help, especially for the family of the boy who fell from the water tower. I'm also looking forward to seeing whatever happens with that obnoxious deputy.

I liked this book best of the trilogy. Maybe because it's the final book and tied all the stories together. I usually read books with a great deal more action. This book was more true to life. Experiences that could happen to anybody and yet in the end Boone and Tara end up "happily together ever after".

Linda Lael Miller is my go to author for stories that sound like they could happen in my town. There is just something about the way she writes her books that just captivates me and holds me until the very last page. Now the only flaw in this book is that Boone is a widower. I do find that to be an issue and lately I seem to see this theme in the books I have been reading. I am not saying that I don’t feel for the person that loses a spouse because I do. What I don’t like is when the widow/widower is not over the loss of their deceased spouse and yet they go ahead and start a relationship with someone else. I just do not find that romantic at all. It wasn’t a huge issue in this story thank goodness. Otherwise I totally and completely enjoyed this book. As always I look forward to whatever book this talented author has coming out next!

As always, Linda Lael Miller does not disappoint. I enjoyed this book where readers are transported to Parable, Montana, where they are introduced to Sheriff Boone Taylor and his neighbour, Tara Kendall, who do not get along with each other. Through varying circumstances, each takes in two children to live with them. Through the children, Boone and Tara learn to rely on and eventually love each other. This book is part of a series about Parable, Montana and readers run into characters from previous books. Because of that, this book will also appeal to fans of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series. I received an ARC from NetGalley.

Why did I not enjoy this book! ugh!I am a Linda Lael Miller fan (have read most - if not all - of her books) but I just could not get into this book. I was turned off by Boone from the start (which may have been the main problem.) The fact that he had almost completely dropped out of his sons' life (even though he had his reasons) made it hard for me to like him.And, while I enjoyed Tara's character, I didn't think the story connected between her & Boone very well. Maybe a bit rushed and predictable? (I kept thinking I had read this story before.) Even though I really wanted to like this book, I must admit (after walking away from it several times) had to force myself to even finish it.I received this book in exchange for an honest review from netgalley.

4 starsBig Sky River bring us back to Parable, Montana. This is Boone Taylor and Tara Kendallstory.Sheriff Taylor sons have been living with his big sister after his wife died. When his sister calls and tells him her husband was injured and would have months of therapy to go through. Boone agrees and leaves to pick up his sons.Griffen 7 and Fletcher 5 have been living thier Aunt Molly and Uncle Bob for years.Griffen is excited to go back with his father but Fletcher is unhappy and scared too.Boone had never meant them to stay that long with his sister. He was scared amd anxiousto bring them back home.Tara bought the property next door to Boone and has been raising chickens. She is from New York City. Tara hates the eyesore that Boones trailer is but at least he cleaned up his yard this past year.Tara ex-husband calls and asks her if his twin daughters can come stay with her while he takes his girl on long vacation. He has not wanted her to see them even though she raised them while they were very young. Elle and Erin were 12 and love Tara.She was very willing to let them come, but she had to down play how much that meant for her because he could change his mind out of spite.Tara went and traded her car a 2 seater in for a SUV to drive down and pick them up at the airport.The four kids in a strange area for them bond together pretty fast when they get thrown together right after they get there.I liked the romance, the kids characters,the community who come together and thier are a few characters that I do not like. There were a couple of love scenes. But plenty of plot.I can't wait for the next story of linda's Parable Montana. I want to see the police chief of Parable fail. Which I should not be. I just love Tara's big heart and Boone's wounded one. Parable, Montana --itself is delightful and full of some great characters that are just hard not to want to know more about. I was already smitten with the town from the first two books but this might be the start of some hardcore "falling in love".2nd Date: Meeting the family: Boone's kids and Tara's stepdaughters are another great layer to the story. They really make both Boone and Tara that much more likeable. I think they shine when on the page. They bring another rich emotional layer to the story that makes me fall in love a little bit more.3rd Date: Rushed but fulfilling: Though the ending was a bit quick, it did not feel like insta-love because we have been introduced to the them earlier in the series. I would have liked a little more time with them as a couple but it was still delightful that they got together.Moving Forward: I will be revisiting the folks of Parable every time a new book comes out. I just find the whole town and the cast of characters delightful!
