Description

Gone are  the days of a shared household phone hardwired to the wall, and ridiculously slow dial up internet that tried our patience.  Today, we have our very own cell phone that goes with us wherever we are, and we have the luxury of WIFI that keeps our computers, tablets, phones, and other technology running at high speed.  And while the convenience is fabulous, these advances in technology don’t come without downfalls, because all of these devices emit continual electromagnetic radiation, or EMR, that has the power to disrupt our health.  One way to protect against the side effects of EMR is by GROUNDING, and in this episode of Life after Kids we discuss the benefits of grounding and the effects of electromagnetic radiation on our health.Grounding is a simple yet powerful way to improve our emotional and physical health in midlife. By getting outside and putting our bare feet in the Earth, we can neutralize the positive charges that we absorb from our devices and appliances. Think of Grounding like an energy detox. It's important to find what works best for you when it comes to grounding.  Consider incorporating some of the tools listed above into your daily self-care routine to protect yourself from the harmful effects of EMR, especially if you're struggling with sleep or feeling stressed, because grounding can improve sleep, normalize the day to night cortisol rhythm, and reduce stress. In midlife, self-care and self-awareness are so important to our overall health as we age, and grounding should be considered a necessary part of a healthy lifestyle. Whether it's goind bare foot in the grass, taking a walk in the forest, or using grounding shoes, grounding can have a very positive impact on our health and well-being.  The key is to find a balance and not stress out about protection from electromagnetic radiation, as moderation is key. This summer, take advantage of getting outside and spending time in nature and be sure to take off your shoes and walk in the grass.  Don’t forget to watch episode 10 of The Life after Kids Podcast in its’ entirety to learn more about grounding and EMR.Timestamped Chapter SummaryExplanation of grounding and its benefits (0:01:40)The effects of EMF on our health (0:02:23)The importance of getting outdoors (0:03:16)The hosts' personal experiences with grounding (0:03:37)Other ways to ground besides putting your feet in the Earth (0:04:22)The benefits of forest bathing (0:05:16)How to incorporate grounding into your daily routine (0:06:14)The impact of grounding on sleep and stress (0:07:22)The benefits of grounding for inflammation and pain (0:08:15)Dr. Brooke's tips on using grounding mats for travel (0:08:35)The hosts' favorite grounding techniques (0:09:22)The impact of grounding on mental health (0:15:02)Practical tools for grounding, including grounding shoes and removing EMF from your environment (0:12:46, 0:13:08, 0:14:09)Dr. Brooke's recommendation of Wave Blocker stickers for earbuds to diffuse EMF (0:19:26)The importance of self-care and self-awareness, and not stressing yourself out about grounding or EMF (0:20:41) Enjoy the show, and we hope you learn a little bit more about living a fulfilling, vibrant, and meaningful Life after Kids!
