According to AARP, Americans age 50 and up contribute so much to the U.S. economy that they’d constitute the world’s third-largest economy if they were counted as their own country. This comes as no surprise to Donna Korren, former magazine executive, Ted X speaker, writer, and brand collaborator.Donna is with me to talk about how we as an "Over 50" demographic hold all of the cards when it comes to purchasing power, but may not realize it. We are all too worried about how to navigate this next chapter.She encourages us to embrace our empty nests and become an emptyquester, someone who decides to get on with getting on and do the work to find out who they are NOW and start working toward something new. And what better way to do that than in community with other like-minded women.And with our numbers, comes great power - she reports that the 50+ demographic is responsible for 56 cents of every dollar spent - 40% of gross domestic product. And brands are taking notice.
