Description

On this episode I am joined by LA Stylist Monica Williams who tells us how she got into the business, how her customers have become her family, her views on life after 50, and some really sage hair advice for women and their hair over 50.Some takeaways from today:Getting up and putting yourself together increases your confidence by 50%, which is a total made up number, but feels right. You are going to sit a little taller when you get up and show yourself some self-care.Peri-menopause hair can do the following: it can thin, your cowlicks can take over more because the density in the hair is less, our foreheads seem bigger because our temple hair can recede, the hair right above the ears tends not to grow, then grey hair starts with multiple textures, We need to decide between coloring and highlighting and drying and curling - maybe you’re doing to much to your hair.Get off of color. Think about just doing foils or lengthening time between visits, or even just  color your hair less.  It is not good to put tint, dye, or touchup spray on roots every day. Tint touch up powders plug up the roots of your hair and could literally be suffocating your hair.Clean your scalp properly. Everything you are doing is affecting the roots of your hair.  Use a detox shampoo on your hair. It removes the residual hormones from your hair that land in the papillae of the hair.Wash, rinse, repeat. It’s on every bottle. The first time you wash its for your hair. The second time you wash is for your scalp. But don’t wash every day. And brush your hair! You have got to brush the temples of your hair. Get in there and brush and get all of those hormones out.Dry shampoo should be used only in a pinch - it is dry powder and will clog your pores. If you workout and feel you need to wash everyday - take some water and finger it through front area and crown of your head and then just re-blow dry those area.If you need a hair stylist, don’t be afraid to approach someone whose hair you like and ask who does theirs.Your hairdresser needs to be part of your “team” for when and if you begin to have scalp issues, which is very common. Having a professional actually saves you money because you go out and don’t know what to buy and end up spend a lot of money on beauty products you don’t need or aren’t good for your hair.If you would like to get more of Monica, yCome talk to me here:Find me on my Website:https://www.lesleylmcshane.comFREE: Midlife in Motion ROADMAP I want more details on the MIDLIFE IN MOTION program:I don't need details, I want IN in the MIDLIFE IN MOTION program:Schedule a Kickstarter Call to get your nutrition and fitness on track!Connect with me on Instagram:Get Redesigning Midlife Weekly Updates:Find your community at the private Redesigning Midlife Facebook Group:You Deserve It Notebook: Goal Tracker, Planner, ...
