Description
Today's guest on the podcast is Jess Corones, Performance Solutions Manager at Swimming Australia.I caught up with Jess while she was in quarantine on returning to Australia from Tokyo, and I wanted to talk about two things - her work as the Lead Sport Scientist assisting swimmers and coaches on the Australian Swimming Team, and to discuss her Poppa - George Corones - honorary Australian Dolphin and Masters World Record holder at 100yrs old. Australia just had arguably their best ever Olympics and Jess' work, particularly with the relays, cemented that success. Hear about how Jess worked with the coaches and swimmers to fine tune their changeovers, dives, turns, stroke rates and underwater work. She also found herself part of the Amazon Prime series "Head Above Water" and we chatted about how that gives an insight into her work.We also chatted about Jess' memories of her Grandpa George, who sadly passed away last year at 102 yrs of age. He broke a WR during the Commonwealth Games trials in 2018, and was hence made an honorary member of the Australian Dolphins Swim Team. What did masters swimming mean to him? George was such a cheeky loveable soul, and certainly a ladies man around pool deck. It was a really interesting and insightful chat and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking to Jess. You can connect with Jess:Facebook: Jess CoronesLinkedin: Jess CoronesYou can connect with Torpedo Swimtalk via:https://www.torpedoswimtalk.com/
